Classic Review: WWF Smackdown! did for wrestling games what Madden did for football games: revolutionized and innovated.

It's 90s and wrestling is still relevant. You go into any place and there is always someone talking about The Rock and Stone Cold or a match that happened on Monday Night Raw last night. In the 90s, wrestling was more popular than any sport you could imagine. WWF (now known as WWE) needed a good video title to put out on the market to show that they are the top dogs in sports games as well.

Before WWF Smackdown was WWF Attitude and WWF War Zone. Both supreme but not good enough to showcase the attitude of the times. In 2000, this game was released. It changed everything. This was truly the greatest sports game to hit the shelves. It was the first game to give us a very in depth season mode along with a great create a wrestler (until WWF No Mercy came along on the Nintendo 64) and tons of match types with an enormous roster.

If you never got the chance to play this game as a child (or adult) and you were a wrestling fan and you found that dusty old Playstation in the basement, go find this at some low grade gaming store or some antique shop and pick it up. You won't regret it.
