Smackdown is far from a perfect wrestling game but it is the best wrestling game for this generation of systems by far.

The Gameplay is decent, but leaves much to be desired. It allows for a lot of screwed up or botched moves. It doesn’t play like a wrestling simulation, rather some sort of fighter type game. It’s not horrible, but if you love wrestling and you want a simulation game to have great matches, you’re not going to have them in this game. The only relatively cool portion of the Gameplay are weapons and match types. Now they don’t just fit in seamlessly with the rest of the game and can look a little strange, like when you try to stake 2 tables on top of each other and the 2nd table’s legs aren’t touching the other table or only one of the legs are. Never the less, the weapons do add to the Gameplay and add to the game. The graphics are good. The wrestlers look good, the arenas and crowds look good for a 2003 release. The graphics aren’t great or anything they are just good, nothing really stands out as amazing or anything. The game has all the themes of the wrestlers and they sound good. The in the ring stuff sounds fine, but the game has absolutely no voice acting, which hurts the season mode most of all, where there is a lot of dialog. The game has a lengthy season mode, a lot of playable characters, and a very in depth create-a-wrestler. The only downside is that the game isn’t interesting that long and can become very repetitive. Overall it is a good game, and unfortunately the best wrestling game this generation, due to a severe lack of good pro wrestling games. The main problem with the game is that the base wrestling engine isn’t that good and could use a bit of touch up to make it flow a little smoother. This is a problem because you can’t have really good straight matches, so you’ll get a kick out of doing big weapons and gimmick matches, but these have a short life and without a solid wrestling engine behind them the game can become very monotonous. If your looking for a wrestling game this generation, then a Smackdown game is your best bet, but it’s far from a great wrestling game.
