Don't buy until it's patched, simple.
First off, there's a few notable missing wrestlers from the Attitude Era, like Owen Hart, Chyna, Steve Blackman and Al Snow. But that I was aware of from the start. What I didn't know is that I couldn't buy every single DLC wrestlers individually. Goldust, DDT, Chainsaw Charlie and a few others need you to buy the Fan Axxess for like 20-30$, really?....They said on the web that I could buy every sigle one of them individually. First thing frustrating.
Second thing, the Attitude Era. Okay I guess it's great to experience some of the greatest battles of the era, it brings nostalgia, and it's what I was after, but when everything is so scripted there's almost no freedom it's pretty annoying. I thought the Mode would be a lot more extensive, and free than that.
To help all that the controls/gameplay are pretty cheap. That's my first post-PS2/xBox 1 Wrestling game, cause I don't like post Attitude wrestling/wrestlers, and I expected something a little more advanced than this random fest. It's all about you hitting the counter button at the right time, but there's almost no indicator on when to do it. When the button indicator appears to do a counter it's actually too late, and if you press the button before it's too fast. So It's a bunch of too late, too fast, too late, too fast while your ass is being kicked beyond belief. That mixed with the script fest of the Attitude Era that forces you to recreate every things that actually happened in the specific match in order, or else you don't unlock content, or you just fail, is just a pain in the ass. But let's say I endured...But the worst thing just happened, which made me turn off my console before I break everything in my house from rage, and compelled me to write this review to prevent this disaster to happen to anyone else that wants to believe me. The famous King of the Ring Undertaker vs Mankid cage match. So you have to throw him from the top of the cage into the announcer table. Thing is, AI is a King at countering, so he counters your efforts to throw him off the cage pretty much every time, and throw you off instead. Congratulation, you just failed, restart match, oups, Black Screen, game froze. you have to restart your console and game my little friend. I guess it's just a one time thing. NOPE! Happens every single time you fail this frustrating match(Among others). Saw someone on Youtube saying he got the exact same thing happening on his PS3, so it's not limited to the xBox360. Anyway, I broke the case of the game throwing it on the wall, I have little patience with this kind of stupid stuff.
Only thing that prevented me from ripping the game CD apart is the fact I paid bloody 70$ for it.
Do yourself a favor, don't buy that crap, unless it's 20$ INCLUDING all the DLCs (That should be in the game from the start for 'free' anyways).
PS. Also a lot of character's faces are badly designed. Like Shawn Micheal, seriously, he doesn't even remotely look like him. But some are greatly done too, and the graphics are awesome overall.
Update 1: Just wanted to point out other user reviews. Just see the suspicious usernames. Pretty random names. Plus the reviews are very short. Not always, but sometimes it's an indicator it's the company itself putting those one from god knows where. This practice have become really rampant over here, especially considering Gamespot is pretty popular. Pretty cheap tactic if you ask me. Well THQ, if you happen to read this, fix the annoying bugs ASAP, and allow each DLC character to be bought individually, just like Gangrel and Val Venis for example, and I might change this review.
Update 2: Annoyances, annoyances, and again, more annoyances. I returned back to the game, arming myself with patience, but again, the game got the better of me. What is unfortunate is that there's a lot of good about the game, but the fact there's so much frustrating stuff stop me from enumerating it here. I think the publicity about this game does enough anyway, that's why I'm just stating the negative here. Okay so, played a lot of matches, and again, got the control of the reversal system a little bit more, but still think it could have been better. Anyway let's state another huge example of big annoyance. The Lita match. With HHH intervening. What I'm telling you is not a joke, I did the Moonshine finishing move followed by an immediate pin about 12 times, if not more, and again, and again, HHH keep intervening. I got to the point I literally kicked the ass of HHH so he stops, to no effect. Then kicked the ass of the stupid Special Referee The Rock for always paying attention to that prick preventing me to win. This game at times is just RIDICULOUS. HOW MANY damn matches have I played where I did so much finishing moves because I had to achieve X stupid thing that needed to be done before I win the match to unlock damn stuff in that damn game. You have to pin in 10 seconds after this or that finishing move or you fail, but most of the time your too near the ropes, so you have to move the guy to the middle so the ring, but you don't have time to do this in the 10 seconds etc. etc. SO MANY ANNOYANCES. I just want to finish that damn mode so I unlock all the stuff to play Universe Mode, but the game is preventing me to do so with countless moronic stuff. Believe me, I try to love the game, I try.....
