A Strong Spin-off For The Franchise

User Rating: 7 | Wolfenstein: The Old Blood PS4

So after Wolfenstein: The New Order ended, we were left thinking William "B.J." Blazkowicz's story was over or that we would be waiting for the next game to come that would continue the story of the resistance to the Nazis. But instead we got The Old Blood, a throwback to the classic era of stand-alone expansion packs from the good-old PC days that gave us a new storyline prior to The New Order, in the final days of the war before the opening events of the main game.

The game is split into two separate expansion packs or DLC's that follow two different storylines, one an infiltration of Castle Wolfenstein with the help of a British spy and the other thwarting a Nazi archaeologist's plans to unearth a hidden evil from beneath a sleepy, German town that goes back to medieval days.

While these plots don't seem to be anything special, that is what The Old Blood does as The New Order did in giving us an action-filled adventure against the Nazis with monsters, Nazis to kill and of course explosions.

The game averaged out for me to about 5 hours almost by the end of the second episode or DLC, which was pretty good for the price I paid for it which was less than it's release price which was also quite fair at it's release.

It's fun and enjoyable, at a smooth pace and you even face zombies in later levels which is great with the graphics of the game and of course the gameplay itself.

The Good:

- Value for money as at it's release it was only £20, and now it's even less pre-owned or new instore with almost five hours of gameplay, or more on higher levels of difficulty and re-playability through timed missions.

- Graphically the game is beautiful as The New Order was, especially in battles and scenery.

- New weapons and enemies provide a varied experienced.

The Bad:

- Even with a new story, some new weapons and of course locales the game looks and at times still feels like The New Order.

For new fans to the franchise, it would be better to start with The Old Blood as the game is set prior to the events of The New Order and for returning fans of TNO it's a fun, fresh new portrayal of the game and lore and at it's price upon release it's worth it for a good few hours of Wolfenstein fun.
