WILD WILD RACING is an extremely fun, but really overlooked game.

User Rating: 7 | Wild Wild Racing PS2
WILD WILD RACING is an extremely fun, but really overlooked game. Below is my first review of a game ever, detailing what I think about WILD WILD RACING.

Gameplay- The gameplay is extremely fun, but as another reviewer of this game said, the controls can get pretty stiff when you need them to be soft, or the other way around. This is extremely inconvenient. The gameplay is also extremely simple. You don't have to 'pimp out your ride', its just keep the petal to the metal type. There are 5 levels, and when you boot up the game 3 of them are available. There is only 1 car when you first start the game, and you have to complete challenges to unlock them.
Score- 9/10 if you like simplicity, if not, get Gran Turismo

Graphics- The graphics of the vehicles are very good, but it's a different story for the backgrounds. The frame rate is in the middle of pretty good/pretty bad though. It is almost side by side with Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory's frame rate, but unlike Chaos Theory, its only the environment, which is really weird. It's almost like the vehicles look like the would be in 60fps, but the environment looks like only 40.
Score- 7/10

*SPOILER WARNING, LEVEL PROGRESSION*
Length- Beware of the spoiled level progression in this paragraph. The length of WILD WILD RACING is really weird. It looks like it is really short, but it is really long. To go from beginner to amateur you have to complete 1 lap of which seems like 10 minutes a race. Then on amateur you have to spend 2 laps on each track, with the addition of a track in Mexico. Then finally when you get to the Pro Circuit, you go through each race 3 times, and after Mexico is a new track in Australia. The game seems pretty short if you do the math in this paragraph, but it seems like it's very long, especially when you get to the last race, and then lose in points. If that happens you have to restart the whole division over again.
Score- It depends if you're frustrated, otherwise 6/10

Sound- The sound is pretty average. You can hear the cars roaring by if you crash, and they sound 100% real. And when you're in the car selection screen a weird announcer with a voice I've heard a million times on commercials and things says the names of the cars. There is also some good back ground music, but there's no lyrics. It's like Super Street Car or WipEout.Pure.
Score- 8/10

Replayability- Once you have completed this game, you will probably only play this game in multi-player mode for when a friend comes over, or if you're just in the mood.
Score- 5/10

Buy or Rent?- This game is a must for some one who likes racing games, but doesn't care about customizing their car. They just want to race. If not, then just rent it for about 5 days.

Overall- Another reviewer of this game is exactly right, so I quote him: "WILD WILD RACING made every effort to be a good buggy racer, but they failed terribly". I think he's right, but I just don't think RAGE did a good job advertising this game. So I give it a 7 out of 10, but a 9/10 if you want a simple/get to the point racing game.
