Five? Can anything still be good after it fifth release? Wasn't the case of FF and RE, but here...

User Rating: 7 | Wild ARMs 5 (10th Anniversary Edition) PS2
Does anyone know why there is no "Jaws 5"? You don't? Well, let me clarify your minds. The reason why there are so very few fifth delivers of anything is because at the time the fifth part comes out, all the ideas, originality, good implements and great twists are all used up!
Is this the case of Wild Arms 5? In some aspects yes, in others no. For example, let's talk about story. You're a normal guy, raised in a small town who has this huge obsession about golems; then you meet this girl, who is intriguing and has no memories of anything, but (oh god, this is unexpected) she came from a gargantuan golem arm which came from the sky. Then, you decide it is your duty to help this girl, and later on this duty will convert on the great responsibility of saving the planet. Are you delusional or just ezquiophrenic?
So, obviously there's not originality at all regarding story. What about gameplay? You just go from one town to another, traveling trough this big world map, fighting bad guys taken from any other fantastic-inspired RPG. There's not originality at all in this subject also, so let's see characters.
In this aspect the game exceles the mayority of the same genre, as character's are very well designed both psychologically and pshysically. They even have eyebrows expressions, something that is hard to see in other games of the same type.
And what about scenarios and dungeons? At first they seem just dull and plain, but as the game goes by, these things become more and more laberynthic and complex. It is awesome how, with the very few innovative elements, programmer's got to change this game from a regular FF -any to a fully scaled Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
And what about battle system? This isn't an Square game, so forget about speed bars and relative turns. In this games, it all comes back to numbers: more agi means you attack first. And then there is this weird card like turn system, wich acts more like a graphic reminder than an useful tool.
Battles are fast paced and can trhowh in some real adrenaline as strategy also plays a part, meaning that you'll have to keep an eye not only on your characters, but onto the enemies and even the battle field.
And finally, yes; girls are from cute to sexy, so all you perverts out there, find yourselves a good game to watch and buy this one. Even romantic hidden nerds would like this, as the main character and her "so called" childhood female friend tend to bump onto each other very often and in a funny way.
So, why a 7? Mainly because I dislike having to take my time traveling from one part to another, and because of the lack of originality in some parts, even tough cut scenes have great voice acting and good animation.
So, buy this, rent it or whatever, but don't give the game less than 8 hours of your time. After that, mail it to me so I can get a good use of it.
