User Rating: 5.9 | Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? SNES
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? Anywhere and everywhere, I suppose the right answer. The SNES version of this game is no different from the other versions... or other variations of the game for that matter. You play a dective that goes around different cities in the world finding clues and hunting down V.I.L.E agents who have committed crimes. As you solve mysteries, the clues and chase become more and more difficult. Meanwhile, the more cases you solve, the higher your rank is. You begin as a Rookie and end as a Super Sleuth. The last crime that you investigate leads you to Carmen Sandiego. Gameplay: 5/10 The gameplay is very simple. In a city, visit one of three sites. If the clue is not enough, or you want to see if other locations give you a description of the criminal, then you visit another site. The clues are all basically something about the flag or country that you need to go to next. When you have enough clues about the identity, you enter those things into your warrant computer to generate a warrant before you catch the criminal. Otherwise you lose the case. There is a time limit to the cases. In the early stages, the time limit hardly matters. But toward the end, the cases can get trickier and you have to move faster. Graphics: 6/10 There is nothing great about the graphics. But each city that you visit has a different view, that is appropriate to each city. That makes things more interesting. Though after a while, you get sick of seeing the same picture. Sound: 5/10 The music and sound effects are enough to keep the game a little more lively. It is repetative like the game, but at least it is not incredibly annoying. Reviewer's Tilt: 7/10 This is a good game for educational purposes for kids. It makes kids have to think hard about what the clues mean, and it teaches about geography. If you don't have the book that comes with the game (a book on geography) this game also serves as a way to help kids use the internet by searching for clues.
