My first Console DnD game and I have no clue what TSR was thinking at the time they said OK to do this.

Imagine if you will a geeky loner that loves DnD but doesn't have a ride (poor), income (lazy) or friends (anti-social) to play DnD with. Now imagine his delight at seeing a DnD game for his Sega Genesis that he can play to help pass time between reading Monster Manuals and dreaming of playing PnP DnD someday. That was me. This game really helped me pass some time for about a week until I just got sick of it. The reason for this was there was no challenge to the game at all. You pick a party and if your smart they can all shoot ranged weapons. If your really smart then you take them to one of the many respawn points in the game (my favorite being the fire caves at the beginning) and when you see a monster, just start shooting. It will die and if it doesn't then just back up and keep shooting. But before that, I did enjoy it. The story was your typical save everyone and fight the evil God story but it did throw in some variety. Rather than you fighting the God, you call down one of the local Gods (whos name you have on parchment I think) who then attacks and whoops butt on the evil deity. This is made even more delightful by the choice of images of the Gods. *SPOILER* A Giant Squid (evil) and a Tyrannosaurus Rex (good). Who ever chose these monsters must have definitely had a reason unto himself to do so. So in comparison to the Gold Box games (which is what I was weened on) this game was disappointing in the story telling. I mean, at one point you travel thru five or so levels of Dungeon to get to a room in the middle of the last dungeon to find a contact with another culture that your city can trade with. Nevermind that its a 1 square room with no other exit than the way you came in and no story about how to get to this other place, just that you have made a contact and gotten some necklace or something as proof. So besides all that and beating up on Gnolls, this game was ok... For a poor, lazy and anti-social teenager to play.
