As a hardcore Command & Conquer fan, Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War is my next Command & Conquer.

I always thought nothing beats the Command & Conquer series in the sci fi strategy genre, not even Starcraft (to me). Dawn of War opened up a new path of crush, kill and destroy in my little gaming world. I'm always aware of the tabletop game where geeky fans took painstaking efforts to paint the little guys and finally get into a full day long game of inching the figurines around. Yes, I always thought it's a joke, but now I understood their loyal fanaticism for this wildly imaginative world of Space Marines and Ork Waaaagh.

Through the faithfully followed designs of the units and vehicles, and super impressive sound design and voice acting, I'm easily immersed into the world of Warhammer, where suddenly, those geeks in the Game Workshops fiddling awkwardly with the toys didn't seem so geek to me anymore. I'm in their world! And like I mentioned, the sound design really impresses me where every unit has a foreboding audial presence and most of the vehicles has the deadly gritty crunch in every inch of movement they make. I wonder if those boardgame fans made the same sounds with their mouth when they moved them manually.

Graphically, the game spots fittingly good particle effects, especially smoke and explosions, where they made the battles really shine. Though the single-player campaign only consists of the Space Marines, it is a satisfying experience with well-designed incremental introductions of more advanced units and tactics. Of course, this game would really be worth it if the other three factions could have their own campaigns, but that would be near 60 hours of your social life gone. Nevertheless, I'm still impressed with this first installment.
