an interesting mix of gameplay styles

what is warcommander.................hmmmm thats what i though when i picked it up from the bargain bin, so what is it?
for starters it's an RTS game, but not like the ones you know, people who like c&c will be disappointed, no WC is a mix of conventional RTS and commando's, the characters look the same but this time you've got more and no character (except a few) is unique. so to get started how does it work.
this game is situated in ww2 during the normandy invasion (d-day) youre a US rangers commander, your job: lead the way
at the start of a mission youll get yourself a small army (say ranging from 20-40 men) with different classes
1. infantry
2. machinegunner
3. medic
4. commander
(there are more units like snipers but these four are the ones you use in the first missions, in later missions you also get some vehicles)
you cannot "produce" any men or vehicles, meaning you have to use your men smart, thank god the game works well with that.
instead of a player like enemy (like in c&c an AI enemy who simply spawns troops at its base and attacks you and depending on the mission has a bigger amount of troops etc) the enemies patrol the area, and such making it look realistic. you can then order your troops to hide and only attack if provoked this way you can move your troops by stealth, also the usage of special units like snipers and scouts is advised, also all your troops are multi-purpose, infantry can attack using rifles, but also double as grenadiers, your commander (your spawn on the battlefield wielding twin colts) can also call an airstrike, machinegunners can lay mines, and mortar troops can blow stuuf up with timed bombs, and much more

-buildings-
so an unconvential commando's type rts, huh no buildings.......wrong
you can create buildings (if you have a builder) but these buildings serve different purpose, like guard towers and bunkers: first build the building then assign units to go inside the building et voila you got an armed bunker or manned watchtower. other buildings include things like an armory where troops can refill ammo.

so is it worth it, only if you like commando's and want to play it on larger scale.
the game also sports multiplayer, wich is pretty fun because you can choose your own army (e.a small army but with tanks, small but with builder, large with weak units, mixed)

so buy it or leave it kids
