Evolution is one of the best fighting games made. Good graphics, gameplay, and content.

User Rating: 9.2 | Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution PS2
When I first played evolution, I thought it was overrated. It had good graphics, but I just wasn't getting in to it. A year later, I just had an urge and bought it. I usually play as a character that has combos that are easy to use, like Jacky, Sarah, but I was horrrible playing as Akira or Wolf. But when I started to play it again, i just randomly chose Akira, and my love for Virtua Fighter began there. I figured out, to get good at this game, you've got to commit to liking a character, then nearly memorizing their command list. Also by watching the fights that come with the game, and using the moves the good people use. after hours in the training area, I was ready to start quest mode, which is the meat of the game.
In quest mode, you go around to arcades, fulfill the requirements, and fight in the tournaments and advance to the next arcade. It might not sound to interesting, but it is. Character customization is what motivated me to continue, and to be pretty good. Youn can unlock new colors, accessories, and hair-dos for your character, there are like over a hundred for everyone in the game. Suddenly after hours and hours of playing I was winning a ton, with only a few losses, and the rank of warrior,a good rank, but not the best rank in the game, which is champion, and getting there takes a loooong time.
The gameplay is amazing. Especially the hyper action battle mini-game. But it is pretty fast, and you can do moves and continue right to another one. Like punching someone in their gut, then kicking them into the air them doing another move on the bounce from the ground. If your good you can always find a move to do, and escape from any throw, but that would require godlike memory and precision.
To advance in rank, you have to fight other players with the same rank (so I would have to find other warriors to fight, and you cant just input a command to find your rank). In arcades, the fighters come up randomly, and you might not fight the same people every time.
The difficulty is just right because you can always find someone with your level to fight with, or you can go back and fight the peons rom the beginning. It will be tough, but the tougher it gets, you should be used to it becau you should be close to that rank.
The length is pretty long, because in the summer I played the crap out of this, and continued with different characters for a lot of hours, I simply just stopped playing it because I started to play other games, but right now i could still find a lot of fun in playing this one.
My advice is, if you like any fighting game at all, buy it, because it's 20 bucks, and commit to becoming good, and you'll be satisfied with the loss of money.
