Celluloid superhero Viewtiful Joe is back in a sequel to last year’s frenetic beat-‘em-up that combined 2D side-scrolling action with 3D cel shaded graphics. Don’t expect to rescue any damsels in distress this time — Joe’s main squeeze Silvia slips into some spandex and joins the adventure, which sends the couple traipsing through worlds based on different film genres. Viewtiful Joe 2 features the same fast-paced action and comic book flair from the first game, but now players can swap characters on the fly; and they’ll have to in order to get past puzzles and bosses that call for their specialized powers. Fans of the original will feel right at home with VJ2, and it’s a great introduction for anyone who missed the original. Considering that it also retails at a bargain price, you really can’t go wrong with VJ2.
