Please don't support remakes. All those resources which went into remakes could have gone into something newer.

What a great job! Getting paid to play video games with Mary Kish. Where do I submit my resume?

Is haptic feedback used?

Wow, one of the best walks down memory lane of a video game whilst seeing the remake's visuals. Bring Ms. Kish back!

@daviz88: Probably not. But is Nathan Drake Collection necessary, either? I guess there are a lot of new X1 and ps4 owners who never had the previous console. It's good to educate them in why these 2 franchises are important. And why they need to buy the new ones. I played Gears 1 on PC a long time ago. But the other 2 never came to pc. So I get to play them for the first time now that I got the x1.

@wkadalie: In contrast to Gears at least Nathan collection contains all three games, bringing the last gen games of the franchise. This remastered Gear is only the first game.

Yet in contrast to Drake, Gears has not just been upscaled, but remastered with new lighting, textures, and all new cutscenes from scratch on top of new higher poly models. Drake is more just upscaled, and perhaps increased texture resolution.

@Ohem1: It might be a bit lazy of them. But they are giving away the other Gears on BC. But then again because they're the last ones. They might not need to be remastered much.

A bit lazy of them? They recreated the entire game from the ground up on a new engine... The Nathan Drake Collection is what is lazy, it's a resolution increase with a higher framerate and uncompressed textures just like the God of War 3 remaster, that is lazy...

@nyadc: Was it really necessary to recreate the entire game though. It's not FF7 that came out so long ago. All we needed was a better looking version. Just my opinion.

Aside from Halo; Gears was easily the biggest franchise in Microsoft's list of IP's. None of these remasters/remakes actually need to be created, but things like this are done as a fan service. There is massive work, passion, talent and dedication that goes into something like this.

None of Sony's 'remasters' come even close to what Microsoft is doing with their games, all they are is double dipping cash grabs with very little work put into them. Look at God of War 3 for example, they literally only increased the resolution, framerate and they uncompressed existing textures...

Sure it had to be ported which takes a little bit of work, but those other things? A senior coder on the engine could do that in an afternoon, it's a damn joke, this Gears recreation is not.

@nyadc: I don't disagree with anything you just said. It was a lot of work, that's my issue. They could have spent that time and money on a new ip, and just remastered it. And Gears 1 was on PC, so a lot of people have played it already.

@wkadalie: Most people who played the PC version and also played the Beta of GOWUE on XBOX One said that the XBOX ONE version both looked and played better. I personally only ever played Gears 1 on the 360 but yeah i have found the graphics in the BETA to be of a major improvement and running at 60FPS it was magnificent while online play was never buggy.

@wkadalie: This is my biggest issue with remasters and why I won't be supporting or purchasing any of them. As far as the Xbox One goes, with backwards compatibility, there IS no point in remastering when, for much less resources, you can bring the game forward for fan service/those who haven't played it (and then continue charging to sell it) while working on getting a new IP out quicker.

@SkytheWiz1: Sony is being smarter. Imagine if they locked up Naughty Dog in remaking the entire 1st Uncharted game from scratch. It would take them probably another 2 years to make Uncharted 4 then. Using their big studios to remake a game that your hardcore fans loved but already played in the last decade isn't smart.

@Ohem1: Actually, if you buy Gears UE you get 2, 3, and Judgment (not that you want this one) through backwards compatibility. I got UE for £27. £27 for all of that sounds like hell of a good deal to me.

I have to disagree. The story gets way too much credit. Overabundant credit. Resource war ravaged worlds has been done over and over, and Locusts made less sense with every new release. The plot holes are bigger than Cole's biceps. The real draw to this game was always the mechanics and gore.

@GreySeven: Today yea we've pretty much seen every genre and story be recycled and sadly there's only so many fully original concepts someone can make for games and movies alike. What matters is the content. It's how you evolve the story of man vs x/y/z. Gears was really something fresh back when it first came out. Today it may seem like an over saturated genre but you can't rip a game that influenced so many to copy them afterwards. The sticky cover mechanic and over the shoulder shooting (while some did it before none nailed it like they did), the perfect mix of survival horror and 3rd person action shooter... A story that was both silly/exaggerated in its character and weapon/environment design, and serious/dark in its tone.

It's too easy to criticize a game/movie, but you can't deny what made certain franchises so great. A lot of us will be happy to go down memory lane and experience modernized nostalgia next week. Happy gaming!

@GreySeven:Each to their own. Whilst I won't disagree with you that the mechanics and gore were awesome, it was the campaign also that made me love the franchise. Everything's been done already, give or take, but with each iteration comes a different approach/story/universe. One which, I believe, Gears nailed.

Agreed. I can say its been done before about just about every story in human entertainment.

Beta was smooth as butter, can't wait to redo the campaign to. Also great for people who don't own the gears games as you will be getting gears 1-3 (and judgement) for free download in Nov with backwards compatability coming.

This is a proper remaster, with more of them where of this quality and bang for buck.

@kozzy1234: These were good games. A remaster was a good move.

Now if only Disney would recognize what potential Republic Commando had and give that one a proper remaster...I can dream.

Okay, buying a game in near full value... Nah Ill pass, tired of companies re-releasing games and having people buy it at full value when it first came out.

"For Gears of War: Ultimate Edition developer The Coalition was asked why they only have one Gears game remastered instead of three, and the studio head explained that it's because remastering games is hard."

What don't you get about you get all of the Xbox 360 Gears games included... They function via backward compatibility on the Xbox One...

Remastering is not hard, put it on a higher resolution which comes defaulted when you launch the game on the screen you are on. Don't believe me? Pop a game in on a Q3 Arena at 1920 x 1080, wow that was easy.
