Who Is Mysterio? Spider-Man: Far From Home Villain Explained

The Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer made it clear that Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) will play a major role in the new MCU movie. Let's take a look at Mysterio's Marvel comic origins.

The latest Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer has arrived, and it has given us a better look at Jake Gyllenhaal's role as Mysterio, who is seemingly Peter Parker's ally. In the comic books, this Spider-Man character is actually a villain, so as you may have guessed, comic book readers don't buy Gyllenhaal's Mysterio as a good guy just yet.

Also known as Quentin Beck, Mysterio made his debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #13 back in 1964. He was a struggling special effects artist who used his knowledge to commit crimes, rob banks, and be the dastardly '60s villain readers grew accustomed to.

He was a bit of a silly villain at times, using his holographic illusions to cause mischief, and considering he's been a staple in Spider-Man comics for over 50 years, he has a pretty deep history. In the video above, we're going in-depth into who Mysterio is and where this character comes from.
