Turning Gamers Into Superstar Athletes - Building Overwatch League

In the fourth episode of our Overwatch League series, we talk to the players at the heart of the esport, reflecting on the risks they've taken to become pros, how their lifestyles have changed, and whether it was all worth it. (Sponsored by Dr Pepper)

On the last episode of Building Overwatch League we analysed the business behind the league, speaking to team owners, coaches, managers, and other people that have invested heavily into Blizzard's vision for esports. For episode 4, we're shifting our focus to the people perhaps most crucial to realising that vision: the players.

Overwatch League's players come from far and wide, and span different experience levels with esports. However, each of them is taking a risk, with hopes of achieving fame and fortune while doing what they love. For this episode we spoke to numerous players including Dallas Fuel's Pongphop "Mickie" Rattanasangchod, Florida Mayhem's Johan "CWoosH" Klingestedt, LA Valiant's Scott "Custa" Kennedy, and LA Gladiators' Aaron "Bischu" Kim, about their journey into Overwatch League, and what it means to them.

Building Overwatch League is a five-part series that takes an in-depth look at Blizzard's ambition, exploring the core pillars holding it up. The final episode in the series will focus on what the people most involved with it hope for its future.

For fans of the game, there's also something exciting to look forward to, as Blizzard is teasing a new Overwatch hero or map. The company released a video teaser accompanied by the words "Calm before the storm."
