This week, New Releases is full of death. Hell, it's in the name of both The Walking Dead: The Final Season and Death's Gambit. We've also got a bit of Cold War espionage in Phantom Doctrine and a futuristic dystopia with State of Mind. It's not all dark, though--World of Warcraft is getting its next expansion, Battle for Azeroth, too.
World of Warcraft - Battle for Azeroth -- August 14
Available on: PC
As you'd expect, WoW's latest expansion is a big one. Battle for Azeroth adds two whole continents and more uncharted islands to explore, along with plenty of new quests, raids, and dungeons. The Horde and the Alliance each get four new playable races, and you'll be able to take those characters to a new level cap of 120. The questline has already kicked off in the base game if you want to get a head start.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season - Episode 1 -- August 14
Available on: PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch
It's the end of the beginning. The last season of Telltale's The Walking Dead will wrap up protagonist Clementine's arc, and as usual, the choices you make for her in the first chapter will have lasting impacts on the final three episodes. This season will also spice things up by giving you more agency during action sequences.

Death's Gambit -- August 14
Available on: PS4, PC
Speaking of action, Death's Gambit is full of it, and it's not easy to come out on top. This 2D adventure mixes RPG elements with tough enemies and even tougher bosses--you can even fight them a second time in Heroic Mode if you dare. Outside of combat, you can explore the nonlinear world to uncover hidden areas and secrets.
Phantom Doctrine -- August 14
Available on: PS4, Xbox One, PC
If the screenshot above reminds you of XCOM, you're not alone. But where XCOM tasks you with defending earth from aliens, Phantom Doctrine is all about Cold War espionage. You'll have to carefully plan your moves if you want to secure every document, eliminate every target, and escape as stealthily as you arrived.

State of Mind -- August 15
Available on: PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch
State of Mind is a narrative adventure game set in Berlin in the year 2048. Government surveillance, drones, and tech crimes are commonplace, and journalist Richard Nolan has to find his missing wife and son. There's a good chance this conspiracy goes all the way to the top...
Next week, New Releases will return with another batch of August games. We'll take a look at Guacamelee 2, plus the return of Shenmue I & II. And later in the month, we'll return to the wild with Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.
