With this, the Souls genre moves one step closer to what the military shooter and tower defense genres were.

*Sigh*.

@Gelugon_baat: I don't see that at all, it's one dev making an action RPG in a future setting. I don't see From Software taking the Darksouls or Bloodborne franchises into the modern or future setting. Hell now we have Nioh which is set in ancient Japan and Lords of the Fallen 2 set in some alt history Europe I suppose.

@jasperwest: Yet that's what happened for the tower defense genre, years ago. Different settings, same overarching gameplay.

Next, maybe we will see some Souls game with a Tron-like setting, with digital bits and bytes for souls. Or a World War II setting with Nazi occult experiments gone wrong.

The game-makers would cycle through all of them until the genre gets stale.

P.S. Also, there's Let It Die.

@trenchcoats67: I never played Nioh, just going by what I've seen. Seems to be set in an alt history ancient Japan. Correct me if I'm wrong.

@jasperwest: it's set in the first decade of 1600 ad so not really ancient. Its not really alt history since the events depicted actually happened, but the devs fused in some other stuff like the monsters and other supernatural elements. It's a good game. More like bloodborne than dark souls imo but definately worth checking out.
