Sonic Mania Plus Encore Mode, New Characters, and More Live

Join us as we jump into Sonic Mania's new Encore DLC, which includes new playable characters, remixed stages, and more.

The critically-acclaimed Sonic Mania is getting DLC, which adds some fresh new content to the game. Priced at $5, the update includes a new Encore mode, Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel as playable characters, a four-player competitive mode, and expanded playstyle options.

In the livestream above, you can watch us showcase the biggest highlights of the Encore DLC. We spend the majority of our time in Encore mode, a new campaign that takes you through remixed versions of the game's existing stages. More than just color swaps, each stage offers reworked hazards and difficulty; there are a few new bosses too.

We also spend time playing the two new characters, Mighty and Ray, who each sport their own unique abilities. Mighty has a ground pound and is impervious to spike traps on first contact, while Ray can glide in the air for long periods of time as long as you give him enough room to keep building up momentum.

While those who already own Sonic Mania digitally can get the DLC for cheap, you can also get it by purchasing the game physically. Titled Sonic Mania Plus, the physical edition comes with the DLC included. In addition, it comes with an artbook and a reversible cover that makes the game's case look like a classic Sega Genesis title. You can purchase the physical edition for $29.99 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on July 17.
