I swear if GTA V wins.
I will lose what little faith i have left in this website
@Blashbuck well........ its's your thought but you cannot deny the fact that it's best in it's own genre
actually i can. sorry buddy.
Wow. Dude. I don't love the game as much as you.
Get over it.
@Blashbuck @Rachit1 what's wrong with you man........... ok, no reason for arguing with you..................................................
@Blashbuck ikr im with you on that
@Blashbuck why? because its a great game and you are an autist hipster that "hates" the mainstream
lol, hardly. I mean hey. If you think GTA IV-with-shinier-graphics deserves to beat games with original and fun gameplay/story like Bioshock and Last of Us and AC4 then that's your own problem that you should get checked out.
I'd recommend the nearest mental institution.
@Sw1tched GTA V should go home and get its own cathegory. But I guess GS thinks XB360 would be so lonely with its few exclusives =)
@Blashbuck @hochiminer GTA V was more than GTA IV-with-shinier-graphics, sure it's still GTA and basic concept hardly changed, but unlike boring IV (never finished it, TBoGT was fantastic though) in V there's much more variety. The pace is just right, the gameplay never fails to offer something new and the story, for the first time in series, was really good.
I'm sorry. I don't think that GTA V is the best game ever made. Or any of the other games up there. I think that's kind of a radical and overzealous standpoint.
GTA V is the best game i have ever played or seen and i have been gaming for 25 years. But that's my opinion, you have your own. Take " the Last of us" .. it was fragmented game play amidst jarring cut scenes with drastic graphic variations to the actual game play and all you did was sneak around and choke people out for 10 ours. Not fun for me.
WHAT ABOUT BEYOND TWO SOULS!?
all utter shit

I picked up Ni No Kuni because of the great reviews. I've never played a JRPG before, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I couldn't stand it, and gave up after about an hour in. The gameplay was boring to me, and I couldn't stand how it would display the same exact animation sequence after every single defeat of an enemy. Anyone care to defend the game and tell me what I'm missing?
@JohnBasedow1 Are you serious?! You must be joking! You played a RPG (forget about it being Japanese) for just a HOUR. Yet you say the game displayed the same exact animation sequence after every battle? Gee, ya think? You only played for a HOUR, honestly what were excepting?!You didn't get a new wand for Oliver, you didn't get the second party member, you didn't even see at least 10% of the familiars in the game, you didn't even get to the first town! You didn't even get his new clothes! It's like someone saying they only played Pokemon for just a hour and then claiming it was boring because the battles didn't seem different at all.To say you played a rpg for just 1 hour, sounds stupid even when you apply it for wrpgs (such Witcher 2, Mass Effect, Fallout 3 Dragon Age) you barely scratched the surface of the game. Seriously smh, what are you missing? Umm how about A LOT, so much that I can't even name everything because then I'd end up spoiling things. I will say one thing though he gets new familiars and gets bigger, flasher spells. Also it's part turn based rpg so yes, the battle win poses will be the same, this has been going since the 90's. Play a tales of game if you want more dialog and animation in your jrpg battle wins.
@LightRukia Ok, ok, not trying to drive anyone crazy, I just wanted to know what other people loved about the game. I'll admit that I could have given it more of a chance. However, in the other RPGs you mentioned, I had no problem getting hooked within the first hour. Also, even though a repeated animation may have a track record in gaming, it doesn't mean that it is an engaging way to make a game. Clearly you enjoyed it though, so that's what's important.
@JohnBasedow1 But if you've played a RPG before you should've know to never judge it after just 1 HOUR. That's insane. Doesn't matter if other the rpgs sucked you in faster. Some games take just a bit longer (this also could be determined by how fast the game is trying to teach you how to play). You'll be missing out on a ton of great rpgs if you make a final judgement on it from just playing for an hour. It's not supposed to be a engaging part of the game. It's just supposed to be a quick pat on the back for your victory and it does sometime make you feel good, especially after you've defeated a tough boss. It's really not that big of a deal if it's in there, since it lasts for only a few seconds and you can skip it.
All in all....This was an amazing year for the gaming industry (just needed a proper MGS title to be the best gaming year in history).
Such amazing games. Look how far we have come. :)
The Last of Us Goty on Ps3.
Gta V Overral Goty.
Dont't let the idiot reviewer fool you The Last Of Us is not only the goty but the game of this generation.
GOTY maybe, GOTG, no way.
Yeah the GOTG title is clearly reserved for Euro Truck Simulator 2.
in order I have to say it's: The Last Of Us, BioShock Infinite, then the flawless GTA 5. AC Black Flag gets mad love too
It will be interesting to see whether TLoU can beat out GTA5
The Last Of Us.
The Last of Us
Ahh, should have known Beyond: Two Souls wouldn't make it. :( Still my GOTY.
@Renoo27 But it's nominated in other platforms.......
My top three: The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite, and Tomb Raider. Though everything else on that list is pretty good too.
The Last of Us. GTA5 as a close second. It's funny to even think of competition of any other game in the list with these two.
@Atermi It's funny to think about GTA 5 competing with TLoU honestly. GTA 5 shouldn't even be used in the same sentence.
@wgerardi @Atermi Okay I agree. Can I use Dark Arisen then?
No God of War: Ascension? = Great job Gamespot, it always looks good when you ignore a great game, you should do it more often... Oh wait.
@nerdstar7 I love the GoW games, but Ascension was so uninspired and lazy to me.
I'm playing Tomb Raider now and can't believe how good it is. Nice to see that CD is taking Croft/franchise out of jiggling boobs mode and into a much greater sense of realism and maturity. Last of Us was fantastic. I felt BioShock Infinite was a bit too overwrought. I think Levine & co. tried pushing the franchise too hard into mind fnck territory, with an extremely convoluted story that gets lost in the midst of the gameplay. Graphics were great, but it still felt like a reskinned Rapture, the same way Last of Us sort of felt like an emotionally revamped, survival horror version of Uncharted. Tomb Raider also falls very close to the Uncharted thing, but with a survival twist, backtracking and a sandbox feel. AC IV is more of the same, although this version is at the top of the class in terms of the franchise; nautical combat is a great addition. I also love the Rayman games, and while Legends is no exception, I can't see it as GOTY. Going to have to check out Ni No Kuni. For me, right now it's between Last of Us and Tomb Raider, but I can't make the final call until I finish TR. At this point I'm leaning TLoU if only for emotional impact.
No Tales of Xillia. Fair enough, I'll vote for The Last of Us.
No Beyond 2 Souls? Boooo...don't even care about the awards now. But I do think TLOU should win
@newport78 Relax buddy, they are nominated for other platforms also.
How can TLOU win with the score 8? I was wondering if the score matters.
@darkaura5 I don't think so because tearaway also had a score of 8 and it won.............. but wii u and 3ds winners had a score of 9, so it may or may not matter
GTA V all the way...like it or not...
@unconquered2222 because who wants to hear the people's opinion. we hear that every day here
I credit Gamespot with being one of the few reviewers to actually consider the merits and detractors of "Last of Us". It wasn't a perfect game. It had amazing presentation values, fantastic characters, and one of the best plots of any game I've played. The base game play however....
Most people have problems deciding what is best for them at the best of times, gaming is no exeption, it's a feeling that decides and who can argue one emotion above any other.
This year I spent some of my valuable free time with Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, GTA V and AC Black Flag.
TR - Glad to see a more mature flavour and gorgeous visuals, solid game play and intriguing background story, however, Lara's transformation from booky nerd to hardened executioner seemed entriely unconvincing. Had her crew mates all drowned from the outset, would the storyline have suffered much I wonder ?
GTA V - Exceptional fun, another visual feast and set piece envelope pusher, but the basic format hasn't changed much, a medium for gamers to living out their Bad or Mad MFer fantasies, just that this time round it felt like the cast of characters had not quite made it onto an episode of The Sopranos and got posted to Rockstar Games instead.
AC Black Flag - More of, but better than, the same. Good fun, vital visuals and subtle improvments kept me surprised and completely absorbed, so why after completing the game was I left thinking... probably good for the developers and ultimlately the gamers, to move on to fresher pastures.
The Last of Us - yep, my best for last. I can add nothing that hasn't already been said, I didn't have the same issues that GameSpot's Tom Mc Shea had but I'm not asking for his head on a plate, although I'd like to know what his Top 10 Games Ever are to make a fairer comparison.
TLoU is I feel, a flawed masterpiece, aside from the scarcer materials the difficulty levels from Normal to Survivor seemed too similar, meaning no necessary change of strategy to get through, foes treading the same predictable paths not to mention the same over generous checkpoints at times and given the gruelling nature of the Pittsburgh esape sections, I couldn't believe how the Sniper Section ended with Clickers running like children after an Ice Cream Van to a cut scene. But after my Survivor + tag, none of the quibbles mattered really.
However, for me, for now, The Last of Us is my best game ever, for all the reasons others have written before me, I haven't "lived" a game quite like this before, Ellie redefines the notion of a strong woman character and it's no surprise that the forethcoming DLC tells a little more of her story. I just prefer to be challanged by a game that illicits true empathy for the lead characters and their fate, which ultimately lies in our hands as players; having fun is always there to pick up and put down.
Having said this, Bioshock Infinite arrived in the post yestarday so who knows... Deckard's Dreams

Ni No Kuni deserves this but I bet GTA5 or The Last of Us wins
Tough to decide.. I'd say it's a 3 way tie between Tomb Raider, Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite and Ni No Kuni...
@thekazumalord Ni No Kuni
Last of Us > everything. Nothing else released on any platform this year comes close in my opinion.
Bioshock Infinite. That was one hell of a mind ****. Pardon my Danish.

I think GTA V,Tomb raider,The last of us and Assassin's Creed IV:Black Flag should win the Game of the Year
Nothing beats Bioshock Infinite. not even close. It wins by miles
@fat3l3ss false. It is a simple weak shooter with nice ideas. It's still miles away from the TLoU's throne.
WTF where do i nominate a game!?!?!?!?
the last of us and tomb raider 8 and 8.5?
