Pokemon: Then Vs. Now - Which Is Better? | Versus

From Pokemon Red and Blue to Pokemon Sun and Moon--and now Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee--the RPG series has changed a lot over the years. But were things better back in the day? Fighting for the Pokemon titles of today is Will Potter and repping Pokemon games of old is Oscar Dayus. Watch and decide who you think argued their case better in our poll!

More than 20 years after the release of its first game, the Pokemon series continues to be one of the most popular franchises around. Pokemon Red and Blue (and Green in Japan) started a gaming revolution, and the series is still going strong today. Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon for 3DS, the upcoming Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, and all the games to come before have made significant changes to the formula, meaning the series has changed dramatically since its humble beginnings. However, the question remains: was Pokemon better 20 years ago?

We decided to sit down and have a lighthearted but passionate debate about whether we prefer Pokemon now or the Pokemon games of old. Fighting for generations 1-3 and their iconic creatures is Oscar Dayus, a man who was just one year old when the first Pokemon game came out. Will Potter, on the other hand, thinks the series has evolved far beyond where it was in those primitive days, and prefers gens 4-7. Take a look at the video above to see how the debate turned out.

The discussion begins with randomly selected topics, and the pair argue in support of their respective picks. Alongside the serious analysis of each side, there's also some friendly fun-making and jokes at each other's expense. Be sure to watch till the end to see the quickfire round, which gets a little goofy.

Last week we put Call of Duty up against Battlefield in a battle of the uber-shooters, and Dave Jewitt beat Will in a landslide victory to ensure he and Battlefield prevailed.
