Netflix's Best New Movies & TV Series To Watch In January 2019

Here's all the new shows, originals, and films that are coming to the streaming platform in January, including Ant-Man and the Wasp, The Incredibles 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story!

We're now nearing end of the month, and January 2019 has brought with it quite a few notable movies and shows to Netflix already. We've gotten a 2018 Star Wars movie, and there's more stuff still to come. Here's the best stuff to keep an eye out for this month; if you're eager for more new stuff, you can get a look at what's coming to Netflix in February.

Disney might be launching its own streaming platform later this year, but the studio's 2018 releases are still hitting Netflix, and January has big titles from its three biggest franchises--Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar. While Ant-Man and Wasp (January 29) seemed like more of a minor Marvel movie following the game-changing Avengers: Infinity War, it's a fast-moving and funny film, and one of Marvel's most-purely enjoyable releases. And with Scott Lang clearly having an important role in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, this is one that fans will want to revisit.

January has also seen the Netflix debut of Solo: A Star Wars Story (now available, as of January 9), the latest Marvel spin-off. Solo didn't do as well as its predecessors at the box office, and the future of big screen Star Wars spin-offs is uncertain. But if this is the last one for a while, it's an absolute blast and delivers everything a Star Wars fan could want--action, thrills, romance, humour, and incredible visual effects. As for Pixar, The Incredibles 2 (January 30) was well worth the 14-year wait for the continuing adventures of the Parr family, and fans can catch up with this modern animated superhero classic on Netflix later this month.

Away from Disney, subscribers who enjoyed the recent period epic Outlaw King can check out the previous collaboration between star Chris Pine and director David McKenzie, the gripping modern western Hell or High Water (January 1). As for TV shows, the brilliant comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt sadly reaches its final batch of episodes, with the last six hitting on January 25. Finally, Marvel fans who have mourned the recent cancellation of Daredevil, iron Fist, and Luke Cage will at least be able to enjoy The Punisher Season 2, which is out now. Check out the video above, and see everything that's new in the full list of January Netflix releases.
