I don't know what to think, exactly, on the Internal Development Schedule. The idealist in me really wants to believe the honesty of the attempt at giving us the information that we crave. The pragmatist in me wants to think that this is a smoke and mirror thing just to placate us into submission. I suppose that to find out the side of the line I will fall on needs time (a reasonable amount of time) to see how well it's followed or adhered to.

You guys know they purposefully put flamebait articles about Star Citizen up for a reason. You guys all flock here to call the game a scam, so they adjust their headlines accordingly to get more clicks from you.

Strange how Star Citizen had their whole Anniversary livestream, complete with multiple videos shown of what upcoming content looks like, yet the only thing mentioned here on Gamespot is something that will bring all the nay-sayers out to start a big shitstorm of stupid in the comments section (which also happened to be a very small portion of the livestream).

It is sad to see Gamespot care more about manipulating fanboys to get more clicks than actually inform their community on the game.

@madcat_mikie: What extra clicks are they getting? I came here for one reason only, to read or watch the story. Maybe make a comment; which I am about to do, and nothing else. I don't see the relevance in what you are saying. Additionally, you are painting a picture with too broad a brush. Maybe you need to tighten up your thoughts a bit?

@Bamda: I wouldn't say they were "a fucking idiot...", but I might say that early backers have become somewhat impatient. Especially when promises and or release dates were told to them. CIG has consistently mismanaged the PR machine. As time goes by, they get better, but Sandi has to take responsibility for the message getting out.

Anybody backing the game should realize that it is a new IP, with a new studio and development was going to take a big learning curve to get up to speed. I think that they have hit their stride now and things will progress much faster. Managing expectations have been a bigger problem than they had anticipated. Most of us know that we were backing a...what should I call it...dream experiment of sorts. And it is important for us to keep that in mind until the evidence points us elsewhere.

It actually looks very promising already. Far from complete though.

@groowagon: What we are seeing now should have been there for us in year two. Mistakes were made.

@geminij13: Wait how the F***?! Could you make a game of this scope in 2 years? How many shits you know about video game development anyway?

Judging from your comment, zero shits.

@groowagon: So, rather than reading and understanding my comment as DANNYtheBOY11 had, you immediately formulated a comment (and a harsh one at that) and wrote back. This is the type of mentality we (the moderate among us) get for speaking. I think that I deserve an apology from you. But I don't see that happening based on your personality.

@groowagon: Calm down and read/understand the comments at the very least. Besides you, nobody here used the word "game"; he just said "what we are seeing now" and this is an early alpha (2.5) with very very little to show off (maybe 1% or 2% of the entire game you were mentioning), very limited modules, extremely buggy, laggy, zero optimization, ect...that being said, he just pointed out we would have seen this early stage after 2 years (and not 4); at this speed we'll see this great game in 7-8 years (total) with around 220 milion donated at that point, which is insane.

@DANNYtheBOY11: (@geminij13)

Well excuse my language, but this is just beyond frustrating. You think 7-8 years is much? Diablo 3 took 11 years to make for example. Star Craft 2 took 7 years. Etc etc. But why people never cried about it? Simple; they didn't KNOW about them until about a year before release.

Game of this scale could EASILY swallow 10 years. But yes! They have MONEY! They can boost up the development to some degree, but only when people actually clearly know what they are supposed to do, but this game was practically re-planned completely after the Kickstarter campaign, since the funding exceeded their expectations drastically. CIG now consists of 4 studios around the world, with people making various parts of the game.

Heck, they are actually still planning how different elements of the game should work, especially in the Persistent Universe. I think the singleplayer chunk is pretty much set in stone, and is being only fine-tuned at the moment.

Oh, and about the optimization; optimization is the final step in game development. That part is done after the game is content-ready and ready for polishing. Alpha builds are made for content testing. Alpha builds are always buggy and laggy. That pretty much proves how little you know about game development in general.

Am i even a little bit sceptical about this game? Sure i am. I think it's a HUGE bite they are trying to chew here, but i'm glad to see someone atleast trying something crazy, and being serious about it.

But my point is that the time they have spent on this now is nothing. NOTHING, considering the size of the project.

@groowagon: Well, let's break this down some. Your first reply sentence, "Well excuse my language, but this is just beyond frustrating.", is utterly patronizing and shows that you are still not listening and only want to be heard. So, anything that you say after this is just going to be nonsense. I read everything that you wrote and sure enough, worthless diatribe. Oh, and using Diablo III as an example for how long something could take is one of the WORST examples that you could have pulled from your hat. CIG also wasted a year and a half; maybe two years contracting out Star Marine to a decent enough studio only to have mismanaged the entire project from start to finish. That one mistake cost 10's of millions of dollars. And set back the project for at least another 2 years. Do you understand now? Mistakes were made.

@geminij13: i'm not listening? no, you are not saying much, that was the problem to begin with.

i know mistakes were made and there was mismanagement and money was wasted, although i think it was a necessary phase for this project, since no one had any idea what to do when the funding blew out of hands. very few people on earth could've managed that correctly right off the bat. i'm not sure how much actual bad leadership was involved, and how much of it was just the crowdfunding confusion.

if you ask me, their problem was exactly that they tried to keep on developing the game right after the Kickstarter, even though no one really knew where to start with all the crazy new promises that they made with stretch goals. they should've sit down and re-plan the whole thing, which would've also pushed back the development, atleast a year.

it's hard for me to imagine such ideal scenario, especially with unexpected crowdfunding element, that would've led to the current state of Star Citizen within 2 years, which is what you are suggesting. are you some kind of development guru who really knows how this shit goes, or are you just barking?
