@yngsten @Guest1001 @tempertress Well, we have to be careful here on creating the news feed. It is not easy to maintain neutrality in this issue, nor the details in it. It can simply create another misconception.

How circumstantial is the substantiated evidence is still to see. The power of the social media is enough to cause joy or clamor in so many ways. We have to be careful here in saying and writing anything in this powerful medium of communication.

Jess have the reasons, and @Guest1001 is right too. Handling the news in one show will show the credibility of the company itself. I agree on that. Saying something redundant due to the information already searchable in Google is somewhat exhaustive too. Definitely. But going in-between is the hard part. It will never be easy, AT ALL.

So a YouTuber who made a parody of Sarkeesian's video received a call to her personal phone from a feminist who called her a sl*t and told her to kill herself. It seems that this conflict is getting worse and worse :( Both sides need to understand that such people don't represent the other and start listening to those who want to find a peaceful solution.

The best iteration of Dragon Age was the first one on the PC. I played both the Ps3 and Pc versions and the PC was way better: it was more difficult and more tactical.

Multiplayer makes it sound like they're going in the DA2 direction, which would be misguided.

thanks dear Jess for the news and it is sad to see a small company goes down :(.. for the multiplayer in DAI i have to confess i hate anything involve with online playing but in mass effect3 it was really cooperative playing between players in opposite in elder scrolls online you can't have players accompanied you to finish a quest that they already done it

I could really care less about multiplayer in an RPG. The Elder Scrolls & Fallout series are great games, because they're massive and built upon rich worlds. They do it without the stupid multiplayer. I don't see companies insist on doing this.

Look at GTA Online as an example.

It's meh, to say the least. It's mildly entertaining, but I feel the game could have done without it, and the energy and resources would've benefited the SP experience more.

@TheKokopelli look at ME3 for example? I wasnt crazy about multiplayer when I first heard about it, but once I was done with the story mode (twice) I gave it a shot , and it was hard not to like it, I kept playing ME3 multiplayers till PS4 came out , which might have been a hasty move on my part...

...nevertheless I am looking forward DA:I and once Im done with the main story line (twice) its inevitable I will try the multyplayer just for the kicks of it.

I hope the company that hosted Fish's company's information does a full investigation into this incident. Hacking groups stated that it would be essentially impossible for the events to occur as they unfolded from the outside. While I don't believe the hacking community is wholly moral, they would understand how and if the hacking incident was possible. When I first read that his company's information was published illegally, I was shocked that anyone would bother with such a small company and fully believed the account on Polygon. However, once I looked into the story in more depth, I learned of the Quinnspiracy and all that goes along with it.

In the end, if the "professional" hackers are incorrect, then, hopefully, the FBI will be called in after the hosting company finishes its investigation. However, if Fish posted his employees' information publically, he should be imprisoned. I hope that if the latter occurs that the gaming press will get on an in-depth investigation into these wrongdoings. We need to know how far this rabbit hole of a high school mentality goes, assuming it exists, if this industry has any chance of being taken seriously beyond its current borders.

tl;dr: The people attacking game content creators and reporters need to stop. Any industry insiders who are acting unprofessionally need to stop as well. How about everyone grows up. :)

A direct question for any staff member:
Why are death threats not reported to the police? Tracing people on comment boards is relatively easy these days and threatening someone's life in cyberspace should be held to the same standard as it is in the physical world.

@xisiuizado I don't know if it's actually that easy to trace. How do you know the person writing the post is really the person that owns the account? (See also: stop light cameras. How do you know the person driving the car is the person that owns the car?)

If it weren't for that, slander laws would be in full force, too. That would make for some downright civil forums after a brief... purging period. <ahem>

@Zloth2 @xisiuizado
That's why I said relatively easy. It's not nearly as time consuming or costly as it used to be. As for who is using an account or driving a car at any given time, it goes back to burden of proof. The burden of proof is on the prosecutors. In the case of a traffic incident, the people charged must be identified as those who committed the offense, otherwise the case is either thrown out or never proceeds in the first place.

I like where your head is! You're concerned about false arrests and such, and I'm glad to see such resistance to possible witch hunts. Many people get away with crimes due to lack of evidence, cybercrime is no exception. :)

I have nothing against Phil Fish personally and I don't support the actions of whoever hacked him, but so long as he's sitting on Fez and not doing anything with it I wouldn't mind seeing a new game from whoever he ends up selling the rights to.

Dragon Age: Inquisition... I don't care about the multiplayer. I just want a great single-player campaign, a big and varied world to explore, and good story with character development choices, and great graphics. Of course, since the multiplayer is there, I might end up trying it.

@amar1234 @Targzissian i'd care if it didn't hinder SP development. dungeon crawlers are kind of boring to me and I can't think of any other great MP RPGs. that'd be awesome if common practice was launch a game then work on the MP for later.

These controversies bring out certain crazed, neck-bearded MRAs who like to say feminists are all extremists but who exactly is harassing others and making death threats? Its the crazed, neck-bearded MRAs. Just saying. ;O)

"There's never an excuse for harassment or threats."

Agreed but you know something else? There's no excuse why a games journalism site can't accurately report on controversies in the gaming world. That's the reason why the controversy exists.

No mention of Phil Fish being abusive towards his followers, including a victim of sexual harassment? No mention of the controversy of unethical behaviour by games journalists, associating with and funding developers that could create conflicts of interest? No mention of The Fine Young Capitalists' wonderful Indiegogo campaign that not only is more progressive for women than every biased and factually-incorrect Anita Sarkeesian video but has faced hacking too?

Stop insulting our intelligence. We live in the internet age. This isn't something that will go away if you pretend it doesn't exist.

@Guest1001 I don't like to report on things that are unsubstantiated and the Phil Fish comments aren't new news. I made sure that I was saying things that are purely facts with evidence. I don't have any interest on ruminating and playing into the 'he said, she said' social commentary.

@tempertress All of those stories I mentioned are well-documented. How exactly are screenshots of a hacked Indiegogo campaign "unsubstantiated" or "he said, she said social commentary"? Plus, Kotaku's been changing policies due to conflicts of interest between developers and their writers. Meanwhile, you reported on the Anita Sarkeesian abuse, which actually is unsubstantiated; her word and a three-minute-old Twitter account is exactly the "he said, she said social commentary" you claim you don't have any interest in playing into.

I don't wish to be rude but like I said, don't insult our intelligence. This is a games journalism site, isn't it? Shouldn't you be telling me important stories, rather than the other way around?

@Guest1001 @tempertress I gotta agree with you, a comment by the allegedly offended and some random last minute account is proof of nothing other than the power of social media. For all we know she made it up to gain more attention and sympathy for her cause. If the word of the only person in the world that has something to gain on the information being made public is considered proof, then there is something seriously wrong. I totally agree that death threats is inexcusable, other than that negative and hideous feedback comes with the territory of self exposure to the media when burning for a cause, that is something everyone who wants attention most unfortunately must learn to deal with.

I say this without knowing if you sourced the footage directly or from one of Sarkeesian's clips (and without playing through the game myself), but I'm not sure showing Red Dead Redemption footage is fair on Rockstar given that the game is intended as a period piece.

Like it or not, gender inequality is a significant part of our collective history.

@jasswolf The Red Dead footage was taken from the latest Tropes Vs. Women in Video Games episode, where it served as one of many examples of infinitely repeating occurrences of "casual cruelty" encounters in games. You'll have to watch that video for the detailed explanation.

Hi Jess, I hope your Saturday is going well.

DA:I Multiplayer - Nice that it's there for folks. Me, I couldn't care less but each to their own.

Sony & VR - funny, Sony essentially discounted the technology (at least publically) when Oculus began to gain traction. Now... Oh, well, probably a case of the Sony marketing department changing their meds at some point.

Abuse & Harassment - Nicely stated position. This is NOT ok, ever. Folks can have their own viewpoints, but using these tactics to try to silence somebody else, especially using death threats, is unacceptable. And I would like to point out to these nimrods that they really aren't anonymous.
