they need to just focus on 1 phone and release a new model every 2 years, not oversaturate the market like every manufacturer is doing, and they are also doing now. waiting 2 years to develop a new phone will give them time to look at what consumers want, where the technology is heading, and what they can add that will dramatically compete against their rivals. i don't know why companies think they need to release a new phone yearly to make money. they already have billions, they can afford to go a year without a new product. people's contracts keep them on for 2 years anyway. apple almost has the model down, if they got rid of the bi-annually "s" releases, and stuck to the major number releases. unfortunately, apple has fallen behind innovation as well, because they aren't doing what they did when they released the first iphone: look what is out, what people want, and how to make it better. they had plenty of time to come up with the first iphone, but now that they're going by an annual release cycle, we're only seeing marginal improvements. same goes for samsung. nexus phones are the only ones that see leaps in improvements because they're usually from different manufacturers and they incorporate all the new technologies that manufacturer has produced thus far. if sony can treat their phone line like their console line, with limited release and long support, i think they could change how others do it too. so tired of my phone being out of date a month after buying it.

Sony Xperia? It boggles the mind that no one's heard of it. It's a great phone.

Sell the Playstation division, pay your bills with the money, allow PS4 to continue to progressively and independently evolve. Or, hold on to the brand and hinder its development by halting underfunded projects and games. While this situation is proceeding inside Sony, I doubt they will be as spendthrifty to pay for exclusivity of software- largely making PS4 into a glorified multiplatform console devoid of identity that just so happens to play Uncharted 4, Infamous, and Killzone.They need to jettison the brand and allow it to realize its potential. I think we can already see the unfairness in pricing that is reflective of their financial woes in the exorbitant PS Now service.

Geez, I just hope Sony can pull through this somehow, the thought of Ps going to someone else kind of makes me nervous.

Sony should produce NOTHING but game systems. Apparently, it's the only thing they can do right.

This is a microcosm of japan's economy falling apart. Cheap labor in 3rd world countries like china killed them.

Samsung has been Sony's biggest problem. Their phones dominate Sony and a good chunk of the market. The Samsung TV's more than compete with Sony's best and at a better price. Samsung tablet sell better as well. That's the gist of it. If they decide to make a console (which I am sure they are thinking of) you never know...

Stop making phones, clearly they aren't up to scratch on what the customers want.

So Sony is worth around 18 Billion. Microsoft just bought Mojang for 2.5 Billion and that was their piggy bank change. So would MS buy Sony? Nope, they can't turn a profit to save their life at the moment. Selling a few more new black box consoles that it's nearest competitor doesn't mean crap if the company is in turmoil and all the investors lose faith. But yeah, let's keep up all that PS4 ownz the X-Bone talk, like that's the big story lol.

On a more serious side-note: Sony are offering Android phones. This is a market where Samsung is King. Sony should opt for Windows Phone instead as this is an emerging market.

Oh yeah Sony phones, the ones I glossed over when buying ANYTHING else.

Between this, VR, and Playstation Now, I honestly am wondering whether I made the right choice going PS4. There is a good chance Playstation is going to go bust pretty soon or get cut from Sony at which point it is anyone's guess what the future holds.

With that said Sony is fine. However, at some point Sony does need to come to the realization that they are not the Sony of the old days. There are other companies that make electronics just as well if not better for less money. Just look at how Samsung has been kicking their tail in the TV business.

Sony would be better off just sticking to what they are good at. Camera's games, and marketing.

@amdreallyfast @dmblum1799 Yeah but Sony TV's are priced ridiculously compared to tv's that are just as good made by Samsung, Sharp and LG. I saw a 4k Sony tv the other day, 60" for $25K at Best Buy! Who the h e l l is gonna buy that when they can buy any of the before mentioned 3 that have 4k tvs that look just as good??? Thats their major problem..

Regarding Sony's losses: Sony is a large company with different holdings, and the losses do not affect the gaming division - which is profitable. Furthermore, Sony cash reserves (not total holdings, just reserves) is over $2 billion USD. They can sell assets, spin-off/drop/sale divisions, etc. And if everything collapses SCE will just be spun-off prior to any doom. It's certainly not good financial news, but it doesn't mean Sony is doomed.

So let me get this straight, first they give us the Master Chief Collection, which for those of us who were already fans of the series simply meant HALO 2 remastered. Now they want to remake ODST & Reach? Why not just make a game collection called HALO: REBORN and re-do as many of the titles as possible releasing THAT on X1. At least then you would get some of us fans who already own the series interested in buying it again, if only for that new polished look.

Project Morpheus is probably going to get slashed first. Its a chancy, expensive, gimmicky side project. Despite its hype, a lot of people don't even know about or want to try VR, let alone shell out a lot of money on a set they can only use for their console. VR is fledgling tech, its niche tech, not something a company that is literally bleeding money can afford to dip their toes into. Beyond that, slash and burn their other unprofitable subdivisions, some corporate wide scale-backs and hiring competent executives is always good. That's all I got for now, good luck Sony.

Sony tried that with 3D gaming - and it tanked...miserably.

ODST was an awesome game! Seemed to go under the radar due to no MC unfortunately.

Sony's smartphone marketing was comical. In Canada, they promoted the new Michael Jackson album with the phone. A) It's commonly known that MJ hated Sony. He called his bosses the dev!l, and ranted about the illuminat!. B) MJ still has that creepy peed0 vibe that turns off many, and C) The wrong celebrity for the demographic.

Sony needs to ask themselves what they do well and stop trying to offer every type of technology while excelling at none. They're never again going to be the company that can charge more because it sells higher quality products, the US and Korea have caught up. They need to sell something innovative, hard to do when you're losing a fortune and can't easily find a billion dollars to invest in R&D for something you hope bears fruit in several years.

Does any division besides Playstation actually turn them a profit now?
