2 types of games: Smart Buyers and Lame Whiners. Smart buyers, like myself, will protest beforehand if we see the legacy getting raped by idiots. We have will power. We do not pre-order. We have clear sight, we will calmly observe, and WAIT until all the shit hit the online fan and the wreckage get restored into a functional state. We can wait until the day we don't pay to rent a game from big biz. We want to own our game. If they don't fix it, we walk away.
The second type of gamers, the Lame Whiners, will protest beforehand too. But they either pre-order, or jump in at launch knowing they will 100% get 5crewed. They can't blame EA, for they too actively and willingly contribute to the destruction of the legacy game. After the Simcity fiasco, key people resigned, EA admit defeat, feigned humility, anounced The Sims 4 will be offline.
Yet.... EA continues to act blase abt coming GTA. HUH??? Is it because EA suits think GTA audience are bunch of weak-minded Lame Whiners who are more sissy and compromising than The Sims buyers? The Sims players are stronger than GTA players? Really?
EA what the heck are you thinking. xbox almost blew thier shot at selling thier new game system with a huge boycot and you try to do the same thing. you will fail. i dont always want to be online i like my me time. and i dont always have internet connetion to use so you really are shoving a huge one up my ^&%&^. I will no longer use EA games if this is the case. these dumb smart people are just going to ruin thier games. xbox was smart enough to fix thier mistake hope you do too.
Why do they WANT to force always online on people? Surely if everyone is always online then we will be always online right now anyway. BUT many of us aren't always online, all of the time. I must admit the last time I switched on my Xbox without being connected to the internet is probably about six years but it doesn't mean having the choice to be offline isn't a good thing. Give us the choice and no one will argue, and in the mean time why not make some games where we all WANT to be online all of the time? Because right now I can take or leave online games.
Online only "principle" is another ridiculous bullshit from EA! From now on "Electronic Arts" is PERMANENTLY on my blacklist. Never done - never buy!
Well, lets sit and watch how their profits would go lower and lower until no one ever remembers that there was a such company...
@Serpent17 And to think how EA used to be one of my favorite game companies. But now they just shot themselves in the foot. :(
Good one EA. You completely ignored the fiasco that was the Microsoft's announcement of required online. Stick to your guns EA! I hope your games quickly fill the bargain bins at Wal Mart!
What was the 8 year old doing with the game in the first place? There's a reason why games have age restrictions and it's the duty of the parent/guardian to enforce them. I agree with Rockstar, the underlying problem at hand is bad parenting and putting the blame on games is just ridiculous.
Of course the eight year old murder had nothing to do with bad parenting and lifestyle, its obviously the video game that millions of people play every day.
I didn't see song list, I just want to suprise myself and discover some things on my own
So... no more mass effect? :(
AmmuNation clearly needs to do better background checks. That 8 year old kid is mentally unstable.
Not cool, EA.
Your decision to stop making offline games is not something I'm pleased with. I'm 34 years old, and most of my friends either don't play video games anymore, or have different work schedules than me, which makes it difficult for us to coordinate times to play games online together.
This leaves me with 2 options: play games online with a bunch of people that I don't know, most of whom are much younger than me (not that I have a problem with your generation, young people (and a small, but very vocal minority of annoying, racist jerks)), or option 2: play offline. I almost always opt for the latter option.
The other problem I have, EA, is that I just simply prefer offline gaming. When I get a new game, I usually don't even bother with online modes. I opt for "career mode" or "story mode".
Playing video games is my "me" time. It's what I do after a long day of dealing with people, after my wife has gone off to bed. It's a great way to unwind, and I don't care to have a bunch of strangers join me.
Dumb move EA.
Feel the same way! Bad move for EA I think...
@lordliubei Im 16 and I enjoy the offline experience much better than any offline as is my time to relax as well. It sucks to see most develpoers making all of these online focused games lately and makes me wonder what it will come to a couple years down the road, I hope they dont start a trend of this
@lordliubei Well said. Exactly my thoughts as well.
I'm 48 yrs old and have been gaming since Tellipong and a Timex2K pc(that's 2k of total ram, folks..lol) way back in the late 70's. I'm married now and have bought up my 9 yr old(w/autism) and the only time i get to game, is when both are sleeping. I use headphones to not wake them up, but when i'm on xbox live, and (like you mentioned) some annoying/screaming teens(and immature adults) are online, it can ruin a great online BF3 experience.
Back when pc online started(modem-modem) in the mid 90's, i thought online was everything, however aftter playing some 1000+ online games be it fps's or mmo's..ect, it's all the same really, and for me, once i place in the top 3 in any BF3 game(pc, with using a gamepad..lol), then i just shut it off, and go play what i really enjoy, offline games.
Imagine if classics such as the entire GTA series, Fallout series , Elder Scrolls series , Uncharted series, Bioshock series, Mass Effect series..ect, where not being developed because all developers thought the way E.A is thinking?
Actually, i'd lose almost all interest in gaming..which is easily my main hobby, for some 35yrs.
This yr alone, with Bioshock Inf., Crysis 3, TLoU, and upcoming GTA:V, Watchdogs, Killzone:SF, Dead Rising 3..ect, every game except BF4, i'll be playing offline.
Actually i spent 1000's of hrs with all 3 versions's of GTA:IV from 2008..that's over 5yrs of offline gaming, add to that moding of GTA:IV on the pc, of which online only, that would not be possible.
Let' hope most other developers don't follow suit with E.A's 'only online' policy.
(actually MS and E.A. should jump in bed together, as both are pushing for online only)
@lordliubei I'm not sure this really means that there won't be any single player experiences for us to enjoy in games. Not every game EA puts out is going to be a multiplayer game with no single player mode. What they are saying is that their games will require that you be actively online or be connected to the internet while playing.
@lordliubei I'm with you !!! I'm 32 and I don't want all these CO-OP games, i want to play ALONE, damn ! :D
@_AsAx_ @lordliubei Actually, when i do play online, i prefer co-op mo gaming over the sos..deathmatch.capture the flag..ect, gameplay.
But still, i'd rather play alone.
There are a couple exceptions, such as the L4D series, which is near perfectly done co-op.
btw: Best thing to do, when online, is get yourself simular thinking/acting friends..or join a mature clan, as that really is what brings out the best in online gaming.
@lordliubei Exactly same situation for me excpet im 33.
I dont have patiente for online games for same reason.
EA is barely keeping it's head above the proverbial water line of bankruptcy so I'm not surprised at this latest tatic. They are grasping at straws to try and survive. It's a move EA, Microsoft and ultimately Sony want eventually.
Microsoft proved this point head on with it's ridiculous requirements they had in place concerning the rollout of the new Xbox One then with disappointing pre-order sales numbers and massive complaints from consumers they withdrew their plans. But at some point their plans will be put in place and we will have to choose if we can live with it or just play are older games and systems.
They want more control over piracy and in general just more control over us gamers and the ultimate bottom line more money!
In the near future they want us to play 'online only' through servers and pay a monthly fee. At some point they will no longer produce disc based games. It's the wave of the future like it or NOT!
@2000mustanggt It's probably more likely to step on the sun than for a parent(s) to actually come out blaming themselves for something like that, no matter how at fault they are.
People love to use scapegoats.
Join the Steam crowd... the part that has fully released games and not "Help us Develop this" crap.
Steams 'play offline' feature gives EA the finger when you just wanna play something on campus after a 3 hr lecture.
If you're really bent out of shape about companies like EA, and Microsoft even, just do what I do: buy everything used.
I'm starting to hate EA. Wanted to buy Sim City, saw a price of 39$/59$ (was quite happy), checked out the price in Origin - 59.99/79.99 EUROS! Where is the logic in that? If EA really wants to cut down on piracy, they should think about their regional pricing, not forcing always on.
EA has every right to do whatever they want with their product, but we also have the right to not buy whatever product they sell. Shame about Sim City thou, glad i bought Sim City 4000 when it went on sale on steam
So...unless this also affects Dragon Age, this will change my purchases in games...not at all. Alright. EA, you are idiots. And we move on.
@roosteraxe1 m worried about dragon age and fifa ... **** ea otherwise
Socialising and playing with others is fine.
But more than often I prefer to lose myself in a deep immersive single player experience.
Wrong move EA...
Electronic Arse. - It's In The Name!
World wide Boycott for EA Games in 3... 2... 1...
EA doesn't put out games that I really interested in sans maybe some Bioware stuff now that they've gotten the ME series off their backs (for now), so this news doesn't really affect me personally. Still, it is a quite irritating move.
I WANT my offline RPG experience darnit!
Well, I wasn't planning on "pre-ordering" the sims 4 anyway. So if it is online only, I just won't buy it and probably boycott EA.
@kazama99 You just started boycotting them? Get with the times, dude.
@amdreallyfast @kazama99 lol I still enjoy some games that EA has made (or I should say published). Its unfortunate that EA has got their grubby hands on all good game franchises, including now Star Wars. But it won't matter much anymore, its just impossible to support a online only mentality.
only ea i buy is fifa hmm wonder what konami is up to these days??
well the good thing about EA do always online is that bioware will have more money to create betters games that goes online and ofline .. will be good for bioware and not so good for EA..
Why does EA insist on being Anti-Consumer?!!
@jflkdjs it's like ignoring the girl you like thinking sooner or later she will come to you...not.
@jflkdjs my thoughts exactly. Just bad decisions every which way.
1. Announce a policy that will have negative feedback, generating free publicity for the company and its products.
2. Denounce the policy and watch people return with renewed interest.
3. Roll in even more money than before, then repeat the cycle.
You know. I think these accidental/hacked leaks are BS. I think they do it to create hype. Happens way to often.
C'mon guys, that's an excelent idea! Just look at Sim City's launch! I'm pretty sure EA is just doing what's best for us...Seriously though, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. EA must think gamers are all stupid (y'know, just like they think ALL of us like online experience all the time...)
@Fprosell Doing what's best for us? By pushing themselves (hopefully) into bankruptcy...yes.
Great idea EA go for it!
Honestly EA's decision doesn't take me by surprise all that much. They may of been a staple in the gaming industry for years, but I've never really respected them from a business perspective. More than anything, EA just seems to always follow Microsoft's business planning, and we've seen how well that's worked out for them! What part of "Gamers are diverse, but you can't alienate the core" did EA miss out on? And have they just ignored the fact that for every successful completely online game out there, there are 10 or more that die in obscurity? Thanks but no thanks, EA. Not that I expect you to actually listen.
leaving her a comment down below lol :D
@VeloRakic gee, you're the first person to say that :|
i personally dont play any offline games from EA or much of any game i couldnt imagine what BF5 will look like with all there focus on the online play
I guess EA didnt get the hint about being voted as the "best" consumer company in the world XD
