Great interview. And great map! Definitely a labor of love. I'm thankful for games like Gone Home that think out of the box in their game design. It really worked for me. And who knew it'd make such a great CS:GO map, too?

Note to self: try Gone Home sometime. I'm also glad they mentioned Bioshock Infinite in regards to first person games. My biggest complaint in that otherwise brilliant game was the sheer amount of enemies between you and the next checkpoint. It felt like I was playing Left 4 Dead.

Lessening the bodycount and making each individual encounter a genuine threat as opposed to sheer force of numbers would have been a good start insofar as to alleviate the jarring disconnect between the shooting and the events of Infinite - almost adopting a Dark Souls-like strategy to its gameplay. Sometimes less is more.

@cammy_time: That is more in-line with the original two BioShock games, too, and it's why I vastly preferred the Burial at Sea DLC. Infinite is a competent shooter with some fun abilities, but I never felt like there was much in the way of real strategy involved.

I did feel as though there was plenty of strategy involved in the Bioshock series; the main problem was that it was never incentivised. I guess in the end why would we the player bother to fire up a Devil's Kiss when a shot to the head gets the job done? It's just another way of dropping an enemy (something we were obliged to do).

I may be unnecessarily harsh on Infinite, but it's difficult not to be disappointed when the shooting obscures such an amazingly rich world that Irrational Games painstakingly crafted.

@cammy_time: The "making each individual encounter a genuine threat" part is something I absolutely want to see more of, not just in FPS games but across the board. I think MMOs might be the worst offenders. I don't care if you've gotta grind to level up, but at least make the grinding worthwhile in itself.

Why is it so hard to find the full show?

@JohnyMyko: Looks to me like our player is freaking out about AdBlock. I'll ask the engineers. If you pause AdBlock the video should work. Sorry for the hassle!
