BradPoynor... I could not disagree with you more, furthermore if we ever met in person I would probably give you a wollup. It is funny though that your immature comments here only strengthen the argument made by Feedbackula. Please read my comment here as quickly as you can because I am so intrigued with your sure to be honorable response. Sincerely your number one Anti-fan.
@Jimmy__Needles guy running Feebackula is too retarded to come up with any real argument . His arguments are either consist of ad hominem or he tells people what to do because its right thing to do . you are going to give me wollup ? is that supposed to be threat of physical force? im making assumption based on context ? Got to love all those internet pansies trying to be tough guys and telling how they are going to kick your arse .
@Jimmy__Needles id like to see you try to give me a "wollup" or whatever that means. is that oral? Women need to learn their roles, including you, so that they may continue to cook dinner, wash clothes, and stay the hell away from games that they got no business reviewing
@BradPoynor @Jimmy__Needles Thank you BradPoynor, I just won $5 that you would respond in less than 5 min. Now please....hurry up and respond again, I gotta second bet goin. :)
@BradPoynor @Jimmy__Needles Touche' ("Too-Shay")
@Jimmy__Needles @BradPoynor yeah lol works for me. It's too dead in here at the moment for the effort :)
@BradPoynor @Jimmy__Needles I agree. Let's catch some Zs and let's bring laughter to the world tomorrow.
@Jimmy__Needles lol ok that'll work, I'm too tired to argue tonight.
@BradPoynor @Jimmy__Needles Aw Bradly you are just too adorable. xo - Still your #1 Anti-fan :)
@Jimmy__Needles @BradPoynor how about we make our own bet....I'll bet you $5 that within 2 mins of you standing in front of me, I'd have you bent over, GTA STYLE and raping your lousy ass....I already know the outcome...you owe me 5 bucks....
@darthfowler @OseiWar if he were in GTA 5 walking around and I saw him, it would be VERY CLEAR that he wouldn't be back
It's not a chick. It's a man that wasn't manly enough to keep his balls
@hotdogwater66 lmao....soooo true...
Feedbackula is just good fun. Trolls will be trolls. Getting offended by an internet comment is childish. Personal attacks on the internet is like walking pass a piece of crap on the ground. It might smell bad, but keep walking & it won't bother you.
I troll mostly because I find it funny people take it serious. Why so serious?
I've rarely watched Feedbackula because of the platform it gave to the absolute dregs of internet commenting. The vast majority of most comment sections on any site is absolute garbage at best, despicable hate speech at worst. I broke down and watched this episode because I was curious to see how this show in particular would address the classless rubbish that overran the comments on the GTA V review.
It was incredibly refreshing to see you send a "F*ck you" to those types of comments. The beauty of engaging a community is that many people can have a voice in a discussion over a shared interest. Everyone feels that their opinion matters. But it is not an equal playing field, and for those who can't express opinions or engage in discourse without showing some civility, or at the very least, basic human dignity, I join you in saying "F*ck you." Because the voice of those types of comments really doesn't matter. It adds nothing to and, even worse, actively damages the community.
You nailed it with this one, mate.
Preach it, Johnneh! I'd hate to see Feedbackula end though.
So is feedbackula ending?!
Although I do not agree with personal threats or hatred against the reviewer, I do agree that Carolyn's opinion in this case does not acknowledge one of GTA's most prevalent themes: satire. The entire idea of the game is to portray the lives of criminals and mock popular American culture and unfortunately, misogyny and sexism are an active part of our society. The fact that Carolyn underrates the game based on those remarks is quite unfair and means that she doesn't understand the premise of GTA. GTA is a look at how reality is in an extreme and funny way. if you don't like it then look around you. The world is full of feminism, the world has corrupt government organisations. These are facts. It shoves the truth in your face and laughs at the stupidity of people for not seeing or doing anything about it. By satirizing women as sex objects and filler, R* has essentially done feminist politics a great service. The game's moral ethos is, almost always, inversely proportional to real life. It celebrates aspects off human behavior and culture that we generally find repellent. Carolyn has missed the point entirely here. The on-the-nose satire isn't poorly judged or mishandled, but deliberately juvenile. Deducting an entire point for ideological differences is an insufficient reason.
@PaulJanson You hit it right on the money there pal! Two thumbs way up.
@PaulJanson ^This. Right here. This is a thoughtfully, respectfully presented disagreement that adds meaningful discussion. It's really that simple. Thank you for this.
Also the way certain people just hom-in on one issue and overlook the others as if they're not important, well..............the GTA made fun of that on many occasions.
I don't get it? Why the hell do people have their panties in a bunch about the score? What do you gain if the score is a 10? Am I missing something, do we get some sort of royalty? I don't even think Rockstar gives 2 flying F**ks what gamespot has to say. They're too busy yucking it up all the way to the bank. I say F**k reviews, if the game interests you go ahead and try it. Don't sit around moping about a review of a game you did not help develop. If you think a game got wrongfully reviewed, support it by buying it and then give it your own opinion. You're stupid to take someone else word for it, especially from reviewers that have only 3 days to play the game and write a review without finishing it (unless the game is obviously complete garbage).
@Ravenous_Rhino 1 point is like 100 points of e peen if you bought the game
How much has gamespot of 10 if gta v has 9?
I had largely moved on, but I'll be giving GS and Petit more credit after this review.
Your reaction strikes me as emotional and oddly speculative. The logic is that they were less honest because they weren't "persuaded"? Huh? I don't get it.
@mariocerame I dont know about you, but I'm interested in playing games for entertainment. However, I'm not interested in reading about some perverted persons sexual fantasies that is suffering from a massive identity crisis. This is why i'm not interested in researching games further on this site.
Also some very well articulated opposition to Carol's agenda was posted but they were not represented here, which is basically censorship, i.e. damage control.
I agree, humans should be ashamed of their behavior. We need to treat each other with more respect. As a human I am ashamed of what we are becoming. Greedy, vain, self serving jerks. As a human I am sorry for the behavior of the rest of us.
@faerieflower polite society breeds cowards . Its better to have a nation of assholes than nation where everyone afraid to speak their mind due to political correctness .
@faerieflower Oh, it's not what we're becoming, it's what we've always been. The internet has just given everyone a platform with enough annonymity to spread their hatred, ignorance, and closed-minded opinions to more people than what's ever been possible before.
Thank **** your human. I thought you where a cyber man. Thankyou for clarifing that
@hotdogwater66 Haha, maybe I am a cyber "woman", how would you know?
@faerieflower @hotdogwater66 because technology is not far enough to allow any real cybernetics , current high prothetic limbs are still rather primitive .
The show should be about comments that made you laugh and comments that were insightful. The abuse should simply be ignored just like all idiots should be.
In my humble opinion, it does seem as if Carolyn has said the same thing almost every article I've read and she is lobbying for a change in gaming. This is fine but I tend to think of reviews as facts about games and more of a general prediction of how it will be received and the reviewers opinion should not be of a higher priority than gameplay graphics story etc. otherwise a person thinking about buying a game wouldn't find it of much use in swaying them one way or another. For example the way GTA portrays black people is, in my opinion, borderline racist but this is not mentioned because Carolyn would obviously not relate to this, which is again fine but as it does not seem to bother her the misogyny may not bother others in the same way or they may simply not notice it.
Consistency is also a big issue. GTA IV with a 10 and GTA V with 9 is confusing when V out performs IV in every way while also innovating the third person open world experience.
This goes back to that article that someone wrote on how they felt the latest Tomb Raider was a failure of a story. You know how people responded? Here are the only 2 responses you'll ever seen when someone questions the subject matter of a popular game:
1. The game made lot's of money so shut up, in your face, you're a failure blah blah blah!
2. It's just a video game!
The first, in how it misses the bloody point of the author's article; doesn't really surprise me. I'm not going to go into how a hyped-up experience failing to deliver should be ridiculed. I'm not going to go point out the difference between financial success and review success. The only kind of comment that really makes me hang my head in shame is the simple argument that "It's just a video game". Because apparently as a video game we should have lower standards, right? If someone decides to tell a story through the unique medium that is interactive entertainment; we should give them a free pass when the story is crap, right? Because it's just a video game so what can you do? It's really depressing when the people who've grown up with this medium are the ones invalidating it. And the actual belief that "they're trying to take my Dead or Alive and Mortal Kombat away!" makes me want to face-palm so hard that my hand goes through my head and hopefully slaps some sense into you. Film is considered an art form, gents, that doesn't mean Michael Bay's Transformers is an art movie. Nor should it have to be.
Whether or not you agree with Petit's professional opinion of GTA V's subject matter isn't the point I'm making. I'm fighting for her right to make it an actual DISCUSSION to begin with, without users trying to invalidate her issues on the basis that "it's just a video game". The reason for this kind of self-defeating backlash boggles my mind actually. If you don't care about the game's subject matter then why get upset when other people question it? It doesn't affect your enjoyment; why are you trying to shut her up? With that, it begs the question; how is this medium going to be taken seriously by the ignorant masses who don't even want to understand it, when we, the gamers don't want it to be anything more than a simple plaything? I hope you realize you're insulting RockStar by arguing that the story (you know, that thing they pride themselves on as much as the gameplay) doesn't matter. I don't always agree with this show, but Johnny raises a valid point, one that I've been trying to elaborate on back when the Tomb Raider article was getting so much flak. I guess we're in the wrong? Silly me, for a moment I thought video games were a valid medium of artistic expression.
@sweetSWA99ER Petit has every right to his opinion, but it is not a professional review. The 2 negative points he makes are not only bias but wrong. There are dozens of reasons why the game should be scored less then a 10, but the fact they weren't listed and his points were, is what has caused this whole argument. That and everyone letting the childish remarks get to them. Kids are going to post stupid mean things to try and get a rise out of people. They are no different then your mom is fat jokes and can easily be ignored no matter how personal, since they have no real meaning. But for sensible people, the review should be looked at since it caused such an uproar.
His 2 points are a reflection of his own views of the world, but not of the game. Thats where most of the negative feedback stems from. That and the lack of good negative points about the game leave room for people who think the game should be a 10 to complain. His main negative point about women in the game holds no water when every character regardless of sex is shown in a bad way. Its like complaining about how the red M&Ms taste less chocolaty then the rest of the M&Ms. Some one can have that opinion, but its wrong since all M&Ms are the same except for food coloring. All the characters in the game are supposed to be bad stereotypes, not just women.
If he wants to feel the way he does about the game, then he has every right, but as a professional critic getting paid to officially review the game for Gamespot, he should be more aware of the points he's trying to make and how they go beyond his own feelings. You wouldn't want a professional review from a Yoga teacher saying the game is great except how it portrays Yoga. Thats the kind of point a Youtuber makes, not a real critic.
@rschafer @sweetSWA99ER .
I believe Carolyn Petit is a "she/her."
I strongly disagree that the comments are not professional.
First, that kind of commentary is something I value, and it would affect how I choose to spend my time. For instance--I invested time into Dragon Commander because it was interesting politically. If a game is flat and one dimensional--especially featuring a weak female cast--I'm going to be somewhat turned off, though I might like other aspects of the game.
Second, it's not as though she wrote something emotional and baseless--that would be unprofessional. She pointed out facts about the game--objective observations--and reflected on how those aspects of the game affected the game play experience. Cool.
I am super skeptical of reviews that have no critiques--like the Rome 2 review. This? This is a good thing. GameSpot got major kudos for me for calling 'em like they see 'em, and extra super kudos for sticking by their reviewer in the face of absurdity.
@mariocerame @rschafer @sweetSWA99ER Petit is a dude , and only petite thing about him is his perception of reality .
@mariocerame @rschafer @sweetSWA99ER But the point made about women in the game is a point that can be made about every character. Race, gender, and occupations are all made fun of in the game. The reason Petit's review is unprofessional is because they choose to focus on one single group to make a negative point. Choosing one single group of characters to make a point is being bias when they all are bad.
Aside from the three main characters, there is an equal amount of female and male characters in the game. And if you can point to any single one that is a role model type character, then maybe you can try to defend the point Petit tries to make. But the truth is every character is a dirtbag in their own way. Its a game of crime, drugs, and murder. There isn't supposed to be role models. The most acceptable characters in the game are the women like Patricia and Tanisha.
And I'm all for a review having critiques. I love the game but there are dozens of real flaws and complaints you can point to. I wouldn't care if they gave the game a 6 as long as the review had good facts and examples. For a high profile game like this, GS should have handled the review better then they did. When I watched it and read it, I just shrugged my shoulders and moved on. Didn't even leave a comment. Wasn't really a big deal. But then this video came out and other comments that chose to ignore people's complaints about the review and instead address all the 10 year old comments made and make it seem like people who didn't like the review are all in the same class.
The reality is the review was used to push someone's agenda, and its fine for Petit to have those feelings, but somebody should have stepped in and told them to not focus so much on that as the main negative of the game knowing its not a fitting complaint about the game. A real complaint would be that ALL the characters in the game are shallow stereotypes. Or the graphics have some bugs, or any thing they can back up with footage and facts. Petit's review sounds like they made up their mind about the game 15 mins into it. If they can come up with real in game examples to back up the claim, then I would be surprised and sorry. But playing the game, the point has no base at all other then trying to make it a point for their own agenda.
@joshmonus so you're saying other sites gave a 10 because Rockstar spend money on ads with them? Oh thanks, now it makes sense why the game scored so well since it was not that special.
and btw... GS had a lot of GTAV ads, a lot, to the point people ware accusing GS of taking money from Rockstar, apparently you missed all of those.
@fefisgbf No I did not say anything about other sites. Simply making up words and putting them in other peoples mouths only garners influence with ignorant people btw.
If you don't believe ad revenue affects gamespot scores then you are subscribing to foolishness.
My personal score for gta V is an 8, without multiplayer its lacking.
