I still play SWoS and really enjoyed the memory invoking Random Encounter with the original Cannon Fodder. It's a shame they sold to Codemasters but it was better to be remembered for great games than keep going and producing crap just for the money like some of the better known companies in todays scene.

Cannon Fodder, happy days. I remember obsessively trying to keep Jools alive to rank him up...I did manage to get him to a 4 star general after many reloads and retries.

As with previous comments below, love to see Psygnosis get the EFMS treatment, but also it would be great to see classic French developers get a bit of coverage.

Adeline Software with Little Big Adventure 1 & 2 and parent company Delphine Software with Another World, Flashback and Fade to Black (their involvement with Shaq Fu will be stricken from the record).

I don't mean to be a pain in the ass.. but when did this become 99% serious and educational with no humour? The unexpected bursts of random humour every now and then in the older episodes is the main reason I keep coming back to watch it. I mean, the info and stuff is great, but the humour topped it off nicely. I miss it.

I'm English and I grew up never playing these games, they're my era but the type of games they made didn't appeal to me I guess. I was always out playing with mates though, I didn't get serious into gaming until the Playstation, that is when I started to stay in my bedroom. Half-Life turned me into a PC gamer though, never looked back, cannot stand consoles now.

Great episode.

Funny enough, I am an American and I absolutely loved Cannon Fodder. Got a bunch of my schoolmates addicted to it with me on the PC. Don't know how I found out about it... Maybe AOL? Or when PC Gamer had demo discs? Either way, it was pretty awesome and was one of my favorites of my childhood.

Sensible Soccer, then Sensible World of Soccer on the Amiga. Put those alongside Speedball 2, the original Syndicate and the old Championship Manager games and you have...

Wait... sorry... I have something in my eye. I'm not crying. No, Sirree.

Just out of curiosity? Wasn't EA sport's biggest hit FIFA? and they expanded and turned out just fine, right? I remember getting into gaming with Fifa 98, and that was the stuff of legend. So having soccer (football) as the franchise attraction doesnt necessarily exclude you from continuing to be great. Matter of fact, Fifa and football in general is getting pretty big now in the U.S.

PS: yeah i know, we're finally catching on...

@Toysoldier34 @saadomar90 yeah it's the most sought after sports game in the world. But EA really knew how to lock it down too. They monopolized it by licensing. Funny thing is, EA is an american company.

That was fantastic, Sensible Software knew how to make games and Jon Hare is a legend in my opinion. Brilliant show Danny, really loving these.

What a great video really took me back to my childhood.

Cannon Fodder 1 and 2 still hold up today as does Swos. Just a shame Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll never get released, it’s a game me and my friends where dying to play.

Great show Danny, although the prominent inclusion of Speedball 2 (which, IIRC, was nothing to do with Sensi ) was a bit odd. I'd agree an EFMS on Psygnosis/Sony Liverpool would be good - although I have a niggling feeling you may actually already have done one and I've forgotten about it.. One on the Bitmaps might suffer from the same issue this one does i.e. no-one outside the UK will have heard of them, so maybe save that one for a while.

Jon Hare is always good value though - perhaps you guys need a series of interviews with the more eminent members of the dev community?

still looking forward to a possible episode on shenmue, the strange cult that seems to have grown around it, its virtua fighter/ vf rpg roots and the Saturn edition. Its effect on Sega and its aiding the proliferation of QTE's in gaming.

bitmap brothers where one of the best UK developers too! I want to know what happened to them...

...maybe you could do a entire show based on some of the madness of the uk industry and show which companies and developers survived and which didn't.

i.e

bitmap brother - magic pockets / gods / chaos engine (awsome game) / xenon / speedball
- DISBANDED

DMA design - lemmings / hired guns (AMAZING GAME!) / blood money/ gta
- BECAME ROCKSTAR NORTH!!!!

Ocean - err... list of ever licensed titles and conversion / batman / robocop / pang! /rainbow islands
- DISBANDED after infogrames (Atari) bought them

psygnosis - shadow of the beast! / lemmings / hired guns / blood money
- BECAME part of sony

speaking of psygnosis they did some a m a z i n g game covers... as in packaging

good show!

Good times, their games belong in any Amiga fans collection. I hope we get to see more on Amiga developers like the Bitmap Brothers, Cinemaware and Team17 in future episodes.

Sensible soccer was the business, curling the ball in from the corner post used to wind my mates up, good times they were as a kid, don't remember when I lost interest but I'm guessing it was when I discovered minge

This was the best EFMS so far. I loved having the actual head of Sensible there telling the story himself. EFMS is the best content on Gamespot at the moment. It's informative and it's proper journalism.

Last I want to give you a tip to explore. My favourite developer of all time: MicroProse. I can't think of a more legendary developer with more legendary titles than MicroProse. Civilization, X-Com, Pirates, Master of Orion, Railroad Tycoon, Midwinter, Gunship, M1 Tank Platoon, B-17 Flying Fortress, Silent Service and the list goes on and on. There's so many hit games they won't even fit in a regular EFMS episode if you were to mention them all. If you could get an interview with Wild Bill Stealey and Sid Meier himself this would be tv-documentary material.

Being in the US I can say I really don't remember any of those games but I have to say that for the day and the technology used they were some really awesome looking games! Sensible Soccer looks fantastic even 20 years later!

Being Scottish I remember seeing these games on the shelves here but I never actually played any of them. Slightly sad to admit I was definitely one of the kids that was stolen away by Command and Conquer after spending literally all day downloading a 40mb demo of it. Guess I was always more into seeing lots of different types of units and upgrades than twitch gameplay, but I'd rather have supported these guys for sure.
