Dying Light's Battle Royale Mode, Bad Blood, Is Bloody Fun

Dying Light is the latest game to enter the Battle Royale arena with Bad Blood. Oscar and Lucy put it to the test at Gamescom, and came out impressed ahead of its release in September.

With its upcoming Bad Blood mode, Techland's survival horror game Dying Light is the latest to jump onto the battle royale bandwagon. But while its underlying premise is similar to that of other battle royale games--you and several other players are dropped onto a map and must scrounge for resources and weapons to be the last one remaining--Bad Blood introduces a few unique twists that help set it apart from other takes on the genre.

Billed as a "brutal royale" game, Bad Blood mixes Dying Light's signature fast-paced gameplay with PvP and PvE elements. Not only will you be competing with 11 other players to survive, you'll have to navigate a map overrun by zombies and collect blood samples from the infected. These samples are the most vital resource you'll pick up; you'll need to acquire enough to secure the only seat available on the evac helicopter and escape the map, making the mode a frantic race against time.

We got to go hands-on with Bad Blood at Gamescom 2018. In the video above, you can watch some footage of us playing the mode and see how its PvE elements make it unique among battle royale games. You'll also have your own chance to try the mode out soon through its upcoming Closed Global Playtest. To get in, you'll need to register on the game's website.

Dying Light: Bad Blood launches in Steam Early Access this September as a $20 Founder's Pack, which includes access to the game and a handful of exclusive items. Techland says Bad Blood will be free-to-play once it eventually leaves Early Access and officially launches for PC and consoles.
