Divinity Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition Co-op Playthough With Devs

Developer Larian Studios stops by to play some Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition with us, the new version of the game coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC. We discuss the new changes and improvements made to the game and show off splitscreen co-op.

If you missed out on Divinity: Original Sin 2--one of the best PC games of 2017--you'll want to check out the title's new definitive edition. Even if you did play the original version, Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition includes plenty of changes to keep the RPG fresh for a second playthrough.

In the video above, Jean-Luc discusses everything that's new in Definitive Edition with its developers. Like the standard game, Definitive Edition is releasing on PC, but it's also launching for Xbox One and PS4 so it's been tailored to work on a larger, more distant screen with a controller. New modes and mechanics also make the game easier for newcomers, while patches to certain skills open up new types of strategies for more experienced players.

To make Divinity: Original Sin 2 ready for console players, Definitive Edition has a new dialogue UI to make it easier to tell which characters are talking, as well as a reworked controller-friendly inventory system. On both the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, Divinity: Original Sin 2 has 4K support.

In terms of gameplay, Definitive Edition has a new Story Mode which significantly lowers the difficulty during fights if you simply want to enjoy the narrative. You'll also have unlimited party member resurrections and be able to flee from combat whenever you want.

Definitive Edition comes with a new, optional tutorial mode, but you can also skip straight into the main campaign. The third act of Divinity: Original Sin 2--40 hours worth of content--has also been reworked with new NPCs, dialogue trees, and missions--several of which tie up questlines that are left unresolved in the standard edition of the game. Certain high-level skills, like Hail Storm and Meteor Shower, have been nerfed, while underutilized skills, like Petrifying Touch and Door to Eternity, have been buffed. When combined with the new opportunities to use persuasion, this combat rework forces you to solve more of your problems with strategy, as opposed to brawn.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 released on PC in September 2017. In our review, Brett Todd gave the game a 10/10, writing, "From lonely farmhouses through pitched battles with gods in far-flung dimensions, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is one of the most captivating role-playing games ever made. Its immaculately conceived and emotion-wrought fantasy world, topped by brilliant tactical combat, make it one of the finest games of the year thus far, and it has to be regarded as an instant classic in the pantheon of RPG greats."

Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition launches on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on August 31. PC players won't have to buy the game a second time as Definitive Edition will download for free for players who already own the standard version.
