So added HD textures which ARE not that noticeable.Bit like Hitman HD collection.Tweaked the controls. But haven't tweaked the Animation of the NPC, ENEMIES or YORK.And it's the Directors cut.Hold it back a bit longer. To make it more better.

I bought the original release of this game used for Xbox 360. It was mostly awful, with a little bit of cool or avante-garde. But mostly awful. If you buy this new you will regret it unless the re-release fixes a number of problems with the game including crappy graphics, bad controls, limited enemy sprites, lame voice acting, horrendous targeting system.... You'd be better off buying Twin Peaks on BluRay and watching that.

I like how they bleed purple juice.....NOT. Looks like a very bad Silent Hill/ Illbleed kind of game. What the frack is wrong with the japs and their American fetish. I'll pass.

@wgerardi @Codester_41

I played the game at least halfway through, and gave up due to the repetitiveness, bad voice acting, and horrible controls. I don't doubt there's something deeper going on here, but it's not worth the effort. There are other games out there offering depth, interesting gameplay, and quality voice acting.

I'll keep an eye on the director's cut, but I doubt they will change the experience enough to warrant playing it again. The fact that they're keeping the combat is alone a bit suspicious.

It's probably worth mentioning that they are using footage from the 360 version. The Director's Cut has a new UI for York and you can just tell by looking at the old textures. Comparison: http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/5atu7v/deadly-premonition--the-director-s-cut-return-to-greenvale-interview

@ElementalSoljer Indeed. We had to fill out the interview with game footage based on the very nature of the interview. (There would have been a lot of Swery sitting there saying nothing while his translator continued to speak.) We were not provided a PS3 build. As you may have noticed, we labeled the Xbox 360 footage as such in the game identification. (Such as at 1:18.)

I don't get why this game is as popular as it is. I have this game and I tried playing it, but I just can't get into it I guess. I had more fun with the The X Files games that came out many years ago. Which is what this game is trying to be like, and it why I wanted to play but it failed at that I think. I guess I am missing to point of this game, but I do want to like it but I can't.

@ghstbstr It's ok to not like the same things other people do. :)

If you can watch videos of the game (e.g. GB ER) and enjoy the cutscenes or the overall plot, then you do get it. Just watch the Sinner Sandwich moment. That's where the heart of this game is.

If you can't enjoy the gameplay regardless, that's totally understandable. It's like a panacea for routine game design, I think. It's palette cleansing to play something that's borderline broken, that doesn't give you the shortcuts... UNLESS you work for them.

P.S. don't forget you can remap all the buttons. It's way better to have your own more intuitive layout.

I've been itching for this game for, like, two years or whenever GiantBomb did their endurance run of the game. Last week in April? Sweet. My birthday is on the 23rd so this will make a nice gift to myself.

I must say that music will not get old and remain in my head. Also am hoping this directors cut addresses two other important things namely the REALLY bad driving controls and the wall women with larger than life health bars.

To the unintiated, the one reason why this game NEEDS to be played is because it has something that no open world game has, including Skyrim and GTA. And that is:

All NPCs follow a daily routine. You can follow a single NPC throughout the day and they will do things you'd expect someone in real life to do. Try following an NPC in GTA or Skyrim and see how far you can go.

One more thing: This is better TWIN PEAKS The Game than ALAN WAKE.

@the_requiem /agree with @Fanible . I have indeed tailed several NPCs in Skyrim, and some live equally routine lives as in Greenvale. Sure, they don't drive as far... ;) but they sleep, eat, work, hunt, and fight. At least until they took an arrow to th*AXEDBYRAINCOATKILLER*

@the_requiem I'm confused. Skyrim has this, does it not? This is something The Elder Scrolls introduced in Oblivion back in 2006. Granted some/most NPCs do very mundane things, but if you follow them, they'll wake up, go to work or eat, do some general chores/activities through out the day, close shop and go to the pub, and then back to bed for a restart.

I have yet to play this game, so maybe they managed to do it better? Either way it's not something new, and just because it may do it better, the claim that no other open world game has it is false.

This was one of the most memorable games that I've ever played. It's such an odd and surreal experience that I just couldn't get enough of it. The fact that the graphics, sound, gameplay, etc all suck really adds to its charm. I also played this after watching Twin Peaks, and it just added to the experience. I'll definitely purchase a director's cut.

This game looks absolutely terrible, looks almost wii-esque. Now a genuine question, What is so good about this game because i know it has a lot of fans? The graphics look awful and the collision detection looks terrible. I might check it out if someone can explain the good points of the game.

@torrne667 You must play it to understand. It's not esay to explain. It has its own charm despite the poor graphics and game-play mechanics It feels and it is a very original work. Agent York, Zach, Emily: you gotta love those characters.

@torrne667 A few years ago Gamespot started churning out articles about immersion every couple of hours or so. It was an incredibly enjoyable time in my life. I got to read articles about how the latest Square-Enix game let you dye your hair pink and wear a dress. Immersive right? Or how there was this game called Heavy Rain where you had to press the shoulder buttons--right for your right leg, left for your left leg--to walk. So, now you could walk in the game world just like in real life, fun right? Obviously, I was glad when those articles stopped popping up, and unfortunately, I have to say, Immersion is the answer to your ponder. Deadly Premonition is immersive. It's almost as if the game were designed with two questions: How do we tell a good story, and how do we make the player feel like they're there.

They succeeded in both points, but the limited budget shows. The story is top notch. Twists and turns. Tugging points and Wow moments. Moments that would come out of the latest dirty fiction literary novel. And moments that would come out of the latest Bruce Campbell movie.

As far as immersion. The gun-play sucks. But it moves in close and and it almost becomes a, terrible, first person shooter. And the unique design decisions, IE the way you aimed, you think a little differently than in other games, and that broke the initial dampening stereotype.Other things too, going around the world. Shaving. Taking any car you wanted. Doing missions whenever you wanted. Changing clothes. Being asked questions and directly talked to on a constant basis. They all work to immerse you in the right way. Granted, you may not get immersed. there is a point very early on that will either make you or break you. I don't know if you can get back in if you're broken. But if you're made, you're in and it becomes a very personal game with a very great plot to make that personal journey all the more powerful.

pardon the length.

@torrne667 I tweeted this not to long ago, but it's always worth saying: Deadly Premonition is the best broken game ever made. Its moment-to-moment mechanics can be frustrating: the driving is clunky, the shooting is clunky, the graphics and audio needed some fine-tuning, and so on. But it's also like nothing you have ever played, in spite of the similarities to other games. The story is awesome, stuffed with lots of funny, clever dialogue; the NPCs go about an actual routine; and the side quests really get you immersed. But even the gameplay, as awkward as it can be, can really get you invested, because you never know what the game is going to ask you to do--all the way to the end.

@torrne667 It's equally the shittest game I have ever played and the best game I have ever played. None of it makes much sense.. but that's what's so wonderful about it. You will be shocked and intrigued.

You with both laugh at the game and with the game at different times. You'll remember every crazy second of it. Then, when you think you've had enough crazy for today, the game drops a random bombshell at the end that qualifies for insanity. When the curtains close.. you'll strangely miss it.

@torrne667 I played for a reason, every review/friend reccomendation said basically the same.

-Bad Graphics
-Bad Sound
-Bad Gameplay
-One of the best games i've played
That really made me curious

The story alone is worth it's while, the narrative, the plot twist, the ambience and the voice acting. Those are the good points about it. If you enjoy a good story you owe to yourself to play this, although if you are looking for an action-packed horror game, then it really isn't for you.

It's genuinely nuts and utterly unique. And nothing gets a cult following by being pretty and ordinary. It's one of the oddest, most memorable games you'll ever play.

Producer Tomio Kawazawa
"…if there was lots of demand from 360 fans, we would reconsider…we need to feel the need"

Xbox 360 release could be happening but it’s highly unlikely as things stand right now. The game’s producer states that the game is still selling nicely on Microsoft’s console and so there’s no real need to release the Director’s Cut.

@slayerSS-3 Or...hey, we have an opportunity to spread the love to those who didn't have a chance to play it in the states before. So really we, as 360 owners should be so fortunate that we got to play the game 2 years prior to PS3-only owners. Luckily for me, I own both systems. ;)
