Captain Marvel: The Kree-Skrull War Explained

In Captain Marvel, The Skrulls will make their long-awaited MCU film debut. The movie will also explore elements of the Kree-Skrull War. We break down what happened during the Kree-Skrull War - one of the most famous and influential Marvel story arcs!

Captain Marvel arrives in March next year, and it is the first film in the MCU to feature a female superhero as its lead character. It stars Brie Larson as the title character, aka Carol Danvers, and is set in the 1990s. It will act as a prequel to many of the later events of the Marvel Universe, with Samuel L. Jackson playing a younger, eyepatch-free Nick Fury.

The movie is also set to introduce one of the most iconic villains from Marvel's comic books--the Skrulls. These green-skinned aliens are known for their shapeshifting abilities, and have been at war with blue-skinned race known as the Kree for many years. This conflict plays an important part in the movie, with Captain Marvel herself fighting against the Skulls as part of the Kree's Starforce.

We've already had taste of the Skrull's shape-changing abilities via the notorious moment in the movie's trailer where Captain Marvel socks an old lady, so expect the film to delve deeply into this famous comic book conflict. But how did the war start? And how did it play out in the comic books? Watch the video below as we explain the history of the Kree-Skrull War.
