Borderlands 3 Excels In Its Endgame

Borderlands 3 is a great game that raises complicated questions about sequels, expectations, and franchise evolution. In this video, we tackle them all.

Borderlands 3, in many ways, is a throwback to the early days of loot shooters. Considering the original Borderlands helped to kickstart the genre back in 2009, this seems only fitting. But despite its lineage, Borderlands 3 does actually change the franchise formula.

The concept of an endgame is prevalent in modern games. As more developers vye for players' time, it often falls to a game's late-hours to prove that all that time was worth it. And in this regard, Borderlands 3 excels.

In the video above, Mike Mahardy dives deep into how Gearbox made Borderlands 3's endgame repsect players' time, and the numerous ways it allows you to jump back into the fray, without the redundancies of the series' earlier titles.

Borderlands 3 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Good god, why can't you START the game with TVHM and Mayhem features active? Why does Borderlands insist that you play through the entirety of the game at least once before it gets good?! How is that good game design? It utterly disregards the value of my time. I think I have to resign myself to the knowledge that I'm just never going to understand this and move on, because it drives me crazy. The combat mechanics of Borderlands gets old (in my previous experience with the first 3 games) after a playthrough, so having to do everything all over again to access the 'good stuff' doesn't feel like the 'good stuff' because I'm burnt out on the combat loop. Just give me all the good stuff Borderlands has to offer up front and I'd be 100% on board. For flucks sake....

Define great game when it runs and looks like a pile of poop.

We’re talking about the endgame already?

@Starshine_M2A2: Why not? The game only takes 30 - 60 hours to complete, some people were at endgame weeks ago.

Can someone advise what I should do after I beat it once, but want to play again with a new character?
Will Mayhem be the best route for that, or True Vault Hunter mode? TVH sounds like it uses your first character, and Mayhem sounds like it's your first character just...an epilogue of sorts.

***SPOILERS***

BL3 is the type of game that I cannot play again right away after I have beaten it like I did with 2.

The story is really uninteresting, the side missions were a damn chore and boring, the enemies were very lame, Tyreene and Troy are wannabe jack ripoffs that for some stupid reason these developers decided to make them streamers which is extremely lame, characters given Siren powers like it was a damn oprah Christmas episode. I might have chuckled once with this game's humor compared to BL2

To me the only good thing about the game was the combat and Buff Film Buff.......That's about it.

The end game is a complete broken mess. Quit promoting this buggy pile of garbage.

@Utnayan: 100% agree. Even when it plays well, it's just playing the same boring game slightly harder.

@Utnayan: It is odd just how bad Gearbox actually is. They pretty much screw up every game they touch apart from perhaps Bulletstorm which is probably the most fun title they have done.

How do they keep getting another go at things when they are so incompetent though?
