Best of 2008 Game of the Year

MGS4 was a great game the only down side was that theres a movie seen that lasted almost a hour it took me out of the game and made it boring!!

I know people will disagree with me but my favourite game of 2008 was the witcher. I love its combat and story!

mgs4 seems like a good game, i have never played it. but how could they not at least NOMINATE gears of war 2. no more heroes and the world ends with you?? wtf is that???

@DryBomber5-are you saying that you think GTA4 doesn't have a good story? I'm not trying to start a conflict, I'm just asking your opinion.

@berkeley0-sorry just my opinion. Also you know what I'm tire of? People who pick up MGS4 just because it has good ratings. They play the game, and say "Wow! That game was great! It had great gameplay and a great story!" I laugh at them and say "You missed out on 20yrs (going back to original Metal Gear) of great story and gameplay you dumb n00b."

ok guys this is not a forum, just comment on the game of the year... MGS4 was a great game but I think there were too many cutscenes. Many agree, many disagree saying that it made it cinematic, or just like a movie. Out of the list they put up there MGS4 or Fallout 3 deserved it. This is just my opinion, dont respond to it, just listen.

I disagree, I haven't played MGS4, But not going to go buy a PS3 just to play one game. I would have to go with Bioshock for the game of the year. Great story, Awesome gameplay, Great level design. Can't wait for the sequel.

What a shame that MGS4 is only on PS3.

Regarding my earlier comments and people retaliating to it. I said I didn't like the other MGSs, so I probably wouldn't like this one. I think this is a very valid argument as the first three were all rated 9.5+ on here. If they were rated 6-8, and I based not liking MGS4 on that, then it wouldn't be fair. But seeing as MGS1,2&3 were also critically acclaimed, I can't trust their opinions on MGS4, as I clearly have an opposite opinion to that.

by far the easiest game to get head shots and best storyline ever mgs4 is worth more than anything and gtaIV was the best graphics of the gta series but shortest story unlike gta San Andreas

I'd just like to point out that my last piece of mind was ment for Fallout 3, and not MSG4. It was a mistake so just ignore this and the other message, cause I didn't play MSG4 at all... :D Thanks and sorry hihi

hmmm. i disagree, but that's just me. i own a ps3, i've played MGS4, but i didn't like it, i stoped playing after 1/2 an hour. i think dead space should have had a chance, that game still wows me, even though i've beat it 3 times!

I have an xbox 360, so I never played MGS4 but from what I've heard, I think it deserved to win game of the year. I heard the story and gameplay were both equally amazing, and there really wasn't anything wrong with it. You really don't need to play a game to know if it's good or not. It got a 10 people, and it won goty. So clearly it's a must play game, if you have a ps3. GTA4 was also a great game though, that also got a 10. But grand theft auto and metal gear solid are two totally different games. I mean, gta4 is just a game to play if you just want to have some fun, which comes true when you play it. Same with saints row and some other 'just plain fun' games. But with mgs4, it's a different story! I mean, if you want to play a good game, then that is the game to pick up! Basically what I'm saying is, mgs4 feels more of a game then gta4 does, because of the amazing story and other content the game has. Looking forward for 2009 games. ^.^

online is f ed up for Gears 2 or else it would of been enjoyable. MGS4 was really overlooked this year and Gamespot noticed it as a masterpiece. What game is more deserving, than MGS4, there simply wasn't anything that can compete against it. JimmeCata with all respect.

@berkeley0- I don't think ppl hate it just because they don't have a PS3. I don't hate MGS4 at all, I just think there were more deserving games. Also kinda annoyed about this GOTY format. Like one of the guys said they shouldn't include games just so that game's platform is covered. I also think that Gears of War 2 should be on this list. Some ppl think that the single player isn't amazing, but I do. And even if you don't like the single player, online is amazing.

The thing that gets my blood boiling is seeing all of these fan boys complain about how GOW2 should have been up there and how MGS4 was bad. I own MGS4 and i bet you a thousand dollars that you've never even played a play station 3 so just get over yourselves and let us have our system win something. I have played GOW2 and it was a GOOD game not game of the year great.

Not only game of the year but game but should get best game of all time. Everyone can have an opinion MGS4 is best. GOW2 was good but too "I already see this coming", Resistance was fun but not memorable, GTA reviewed well but was actually quite boring, COD was just more of the same. The only real contender was Fallout 3 but that didn't have a good enough story to win. Snake is the man. XBOX 360 is my favorite and is the best of the 3 but it must really burn some fanboy asses that a PS3 exclusive won game of the year. Get a life fanboys. And as for you PS3 fanboys get a 360 it is much much better.

This is one thing gamespot can be proud of. After playing many games this year on all three consoles and PC, this video for game of the year is spot on. Anyone that disagrees either hasn't been around gaming long enough and/or they don't appreciate all of the small things that come together to make MGS4 so great.

It was the best game i've ever played. MGS4 was graphical perfect. the sound awsome. and a better gameplay. that's why gamespot gave it a 10. I didnt find any glich or bug in the game. And that is what GearsofWar2 have a lot.

Its not MGS4 fanboys Jimmecata its gamers in general. You probably haven't played the game. Every year the game most deserving wins and thats how it is. Since not many ppl have a PS3 they don't think the game is good. Ask Anyone GTA4 was great satircal game, but dissapointing. Love Vice City and San Andreas, though bro.

Wow, I had to go back something like a dozen pages but I finally found my comment where I said that MGS4 shouldn't have won all the awards it did, and I gave my choices, and MGS4 fanboys destroyed that thing. It has something like 20 thumbs down ROTFL
