Best of 2008 Game of the Year

I'm surprised they didn't give it to Kane and Lynch. Honestly, MGS4 is good, but nothing came close to Fallout 3.

Im pissed off I want shopping yesterday and i saw MGS4 for 30 bucks and i didn't pick it up i completely regret it if i could i would go back in time

I'd like to see this on PC now!! I usually feel bad for console gamers but it seems the roles are reversed for once.

Finally! A place were they got game of the year right!!!!! MSG4 IMO is the best game ever made game play wise,cut scene and story telling was out of this world plus they added an online to it.There wont be another game like this for a long time if ever again,for me this not game of the year its best game of all time!!!

I fully agree with Metal Gear 4 winning. Metal Gear 3 and Metal Gear 4 are if not the 2 best games ever they both are in the top 5 best games ever. The graphics are amazing, I also dare to say that Metal Gear 4 looks better than Crysis! I also guarantee that the cutscenes will be the best looking cutscenes for a long time to come, if you dont believe me just watch the first cutscene with the gekos searching for Snake. Suffice to say, Metal Gear 4's graphics are the best ever. The story is nothing short of amazing as are all of Hideo Kojimas games. Also, weapons customization! It really adds a sense that you kind of are Snake. Its like, if I were Snake, how would I trick out my M4? Last but not least this game gives you a certain feel of tension. I have not experiecned tension in a game like when you are pressed against a wall, or laying prone on the ground surrounded by anywhere from 3-6 soldiers hoping your camo suit is doing its job! This game is truly epic!

Looks epic. That scene where hes crawling looks good. I would totally buy a PS3 if it was the same price as the 360 and had more exclusives. Looks like a good choice for GOTY mind you I wudda voted for anything to keep bloody GTAIV out. MY GOTY: Left 4 Dead... gotta love shootin the zombie horde

Huh...I should have guessed. This kind of makes me upset but then again its MGS; and MGS *is* a really good series...I kind of feel bad for NMH and L4D, though.

it's a shame konami won't port this to xbox 360. so many 360 gamers were dissapointed, and if konami gave nintendo gamecube a metal gear game, can't microsoft have one for the xbox 360? plus, konami would make more cas$h

I just got a PS3 for Christmas and I am playing MGS4 and it is amazing!!!

only part i found interesting in mgs4 was the camo system, secrets, and screaming mantis (plus *SPOILER!!!!* some secrets where yo can photo bossses stripping if you let them live for 3 minutes when they shed skin... ugly but funny lol). i thought a game like gta4 ould have won... or a great game (new crysis (never played... is it even out? crysis has ultimate gamneplay) looks AWESOME! i thought it should have on!) like gta4... no bad humor, perfect game of its kind. mgs4 just has a feel that you cant do anythig strong (like punches feel weak) a

I have a 360, so I haven't played MGS4, but it looks awesome, and I am not surprised at all that Gamespot chose MGS4. My GOTY = Fallout 3

Gamespot got this one right. MGS4 is one of the greatest games I have ever played and it deserves GOTY.

I didn't like MGS 1-3, so I didn't bother with #4. They were all interactive movies .... I sure hope that isn't the future of gaming: Cutscene, fight minions, cutscene, boss fight, cutscene... rinse and repeat.... YAWN. Give me a sandbox to play in any day! Fallout 3 or GTA4 should have won. - PS folks, Snake looks like that 50 year old guy with his shirt unbuttoned to show off his chest hair and gold zodiac medallion... lol.

I've never played MGS4, but it looks like it's very good. I have a xbox360 so I've never had a chance to play it. BUT IT CAN'T be compared to Gears of War 2. GEARS 2 IS AWESOME!! :D

A game with 2 hours of total gameplay wins game of the year. "GAME" of the year. Clueless.

I preferred Gears 2 and I'm still wondering as to why it wasn't nominated but I'm glad to see MGS4 win because that was my second pick for GOTY.

*barf* I like to play my games, not watch them. MGS was alright, but IMO not GOTY. It always felt to me like I was playing a Michael Bay movie... And I hate Michael Bay.

Kojima finally got the camera right and the controls are near perfect. Let's hope it does not die with MGS4. A new game with the same camera and controls would be amazing. A new story to experience for the next 10 years..... maybe.

gamespot didn't let me down this year.

i think the reason little big planet and gears of war 2 werent nominated is because they nominated the winners of the genre awards.lbp and gow2 didnt win any genre awards.

Congrats to MGS4 , i played it but didnt like it myself. But it is each to their own , and no way am i denying it was a great game , looked fabulous. However my game of the year has to be Gears of war 2 , why wasnt it nominated too ? Congrats mgs4

i'd have to disagree! Fallout 3 should've won!! good reviews on all platforms (it is a multiplatform title! unlike MGS4). and most of all It lived up to the hype!! so many games don't and this one did!! so sorry gamespot thumbs down!

probably deserved it. I own a 360 but if i think about it there have been no truly awsome games in 2008. GOW2 was very good but somehow fell slightly short of greatness, GTA4 was also very good but the problem was that we all knew it would be. MGS4 on the other hand came as a bit of a suprise for most people. After saying this I don't think MSG4 is the best game of all time, that has to be Halo 3. I also think COD5
