Best Netflix Releases Of June 2019: New Movies And Shows To Watch

Here's our pick of the new originals, shows, and movies coming to Netflix in June, including Black Mirror Season 5, Aggretsuko, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse!

June is here, and that means there is a lot of new content headed to Netflix. Why go outside when your place has air conditioning and videos to binge? This month, there are plenty of movies, television series, and Netflix originals to check out. Get your Batputers and Spidey-mobiles ready because there are a few superhero flicks you'll want to watch.

Before Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson were given the coveted role of Batman, Christian Bale made for an impressive Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan's trilogy of Bat-movies. The first--and best--two of these hit Netflix in June. Batman Begins is a hugely entertaining origin movie, while The Dark Knight a dazzling, sprawling crime thriller marked by an unforgettable final performance from Heath Ledger as the Joker. And if you prefer Marvel heroes to DC ones, the stunning animated movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse also makes its Netflix debut in June.

The sci-fi satire Black Mirror returns on June 5. Season 5 will consist of three new episodes, each exploring the dark side of technology. The cast for this latest season includes Marvel stars Anthony Mackie and Pom Klementieff, Andrew Scott, Topher Grace, and pop star Miley Cyrus.

Another show making a welcome return is Aggretsuko. Season 1 of this hilarious anime series made an impact last year, with its mix of cute characters (it's produced by Hello Kitty owners Sanrio), social commentary, and blasts of ear-splitting death metal, and Season 2 looks just as good. Fans of classic anime will also be able to check out all 26 episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion, the much-loved '90s mecha series.

Finally, there are some great older movies hitting Netflix in June. Oliver Stone's Oscar-winning Vietnam drama Platoon is one of the greatest war movies ever made, with an all-star cast that includes Charlie Sheen, Johnny Depp, Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, and Tom Berenger. Gran Torino, meanwhile, is one of Clint Eastwood's best later movies, in which Clint plays a bitter Korean War Vet who lives in a rundown community ripe with gang violence.
