As was rumored, 2018's new game in the Battlefield franchise is Battlefield V. EA has formally unveiled the game, and while there remain many question marks about the new shooter, there's a lot you might not be able to glean just from watching the debut trailer.
In the video above, we break down the trailer and share details we learned during a behind-closed-doors look at the PS4, Xbox One, and PC game. That includes details on how squads work and the ability to physically drag a downed teammate, letting you get them into cover before reviving them.
There's quite a lot to learn, so be sure to check out the video above for a full rundown on what we know about gameplay. That's to say nothing of one of the big announcements EA had to share about the game--that it won't have a season pass DLC. Instead, things like new maps will be free for all players, which is extremely welcome news. That said, EA will still offer cosmetic DLC for purchase along with (at some point after launch) boosters to help players progress more quickly.
Battlefield V takes players back to World War II and features playable female characters in multiplayer. Its single-player will again consist of standalone War Stories, similar to what we saw in Battlefield 1. Battlefield V's release date is set for October 19. There will be an open beta prior to launch, while EA and Origin Access members can play a limited number of hours starting on October 11. Alternatively, you can begin playing the full game on October 16 by pre-ordering the Deluxe edition.
