Assassin's Creed Odyssey On PC And The Uplay Problem - Steam Punks

PC players looking to play Assassin's Creed Odyssey will be forced to deal with Uplay yet again. We discuss whether it's really that bad, and the pros and cons of other distribution platforms.

With Assassin's Creed Odyssey nearing release, those hoping to pick the game up on PC will find themselves needing to run the game through Ubisoft's distribution platform, Uplay. On this week's episode of Steam Punks, Ed and Jess discuss Uplay, Origin, Steam, GOG Galaxy, and more.

Ed and Jess highlight the positives of Uplay including the system's achievement and experience system which can provide access to DLC packs, maps, and items without needing to pay for them. On the downside, the platform's poor performance drags down the experience, and is a problem that arises with other distribution platforms like EA's Origin. This week's episode also features discussion on the problems that occur when games require multiple launchers, or when companies such as EA remove its games from sale on any platform other than its own.

We also talk about Bethesda's plan to release Fallout 76 on PC on their own platform, instead of Steam. Check out our thoughts, share your own, and weigh in the featured comments from last week's episode on the best old games that still hold up today.
