So a tribute to Tom Clancy but not one to Hiroshi Yamauchi who may not be as well known as the late Mr Clancy but saved and re-shaped the gaming industry into what it is today.

@karloss01 I'd like to see a tribute to Hiroshi Yamauchi too. It could be huge, but I'd still like to see it.

Loved the Red Storm Rising love! It's my favorite Clancy book by far! In Tom's honor, I just ordered it on my Kindle app even though I already have like 5 copies. I'll be reading it tonight...

When i first read this online and it various newspapers it made me sad. but i have to give the guy credit. him consulting or whatever on games like Rainbow six and Splinter cell was cool since i i enjoy both game franchises along with the Ghost recon games.

He'll be missed. Speaking of which i wonder what's happening with the new Rainbow six game that ubisoft is still working on. I haven't heard much about it for quite a while.

RIP Tom, your games were extremely challenging for me when I was younger but taught me how to tactfully approach a situation. Sad to see talent go too soon.

PS, good song choice GS. Building Steam With a Grain of Salt by DJ Shadow for anyone wanted to know.

Rainbow six Raven shield was my first online game I played. It was amazing.

Splinter Cell 1-2 fantastic.

Sadly, 66 years is young to die.

I used to love the original Rainbow Six.

I'd spend ages carefully planning all the teams routes and door breaches and timing; then when I got bored of watching them all fail miserably I'd take control myself and complete the mission in about 5 minutes.

It's a shame that Ubisoft removed that from the franchise. The planning stage really made the game what it was.

Big thumbs up for the old school DJ Shadow! The TC games never spoke to me personally but there's no denying the influence they have had on our world as gamers. The effort to eschew a visceral, violent experience for a more realistic and honorable one (even with its exaggerations) was and still is extremely welcome! Pourin' out a 40 for my homie!

I haven't read any of the dudes books, but I have to say Rainbow Six 3 is an amazing game. That game on the original Xbox had the most epic multiplayer

A true pioneer of the genre of modern spy stealth war and the like shooters . Nothing more nothing less. By today's standards there are not too many that can replace him. Today's game designers lack imagination and the guts to move into something new.

I read his Rainbowsix book, and currently have almost all the Rainbowsix games and Splintercell games. Also have Ghost recon Advanced warfighter 1 and 2. Rainbowsix 3 was the best Tom Clancy game I played so far.

As kid i really couldn't be bothered much by reading. I only done so when we would go on summer vacation. It was 16 years ago we would go on vacation and i bought this book called "spook piloot" in English "Ghost pilot but not sure if that was the title for the english book. I started to read it, and gods i got hooked, i read the whole book in three days or something. Where i normally would take the entire vacation of 3 weeks to finish a book. It combined action, tense situations and games together. I loved his vision of how we would use the computers in the future, where websites where virtual hubs and you would login Matrix style (not sure who came up with it first).

Ever since that book Tom Clancy became my favorite writer of all time. Read all the Netforce explorers books and with age moved on to his other books. At the same time i was also a huge fan of the Rainbow Six games. I thought they where based on one of his book so i was looking for over 10 years or so to find the book Rainbow Six, but no bookstore could help me. Turned out it wasn't a book till somewhere in 2000 xD Loved that book too.

Tom Clancy invented the Cyber Thriller genre with Netforce, got great legendary stories on his name like The Hunt for Red October and helped out with many great games. One can disagree with the games being good or not. But Rainbow six changed how we saw shooters, that they could be more then high action gun and run games.

I will miss Tom Clancy a lot. He got me involved in reading again and its a shame we won't see any more of his work.

Rainbow Six was based on the book though there are some differences. Both the book and the game were released in August of 1998 though the game was finished before the book was thus the two different endings between the two.

Rainbow Six actually defined a genre, sadly, that genre barely exists anymore though there is hope.

@dutchgamer83 I know what you mean. I discovered his novels when I was 16 and had read most of them. The First one I got was Red Storm Rising. They should make a new game about it, It is a great story that was scarily reallistic and would make a great campaing for a game, be it a shooter or not.
