they should really continue making games like the Vegas series. We want tactical shooters, not run and gun shooters. That you tom Clancy for introducing this mechanic into the gaming industry...

You should have played Rainbow Six. It is vastly different from Vegas and is what actually defined the Tac-Sim and is now a tacticool shooter instead of a Tac-Sim.

@DeathProofDelta I still play R6 Raven Shield every now and again. It's probably the best tactical shooter ever made. I hate Ubisoft for what they have done to what could've been the best shooter series ever.

@hammoud Agreed. Vegas2 itself is a good game, but compared to former R6 games, it is anything but a tactical shooter. As for GRFS, ubi screw up it and the whole franchise.

@Ser_Charles @hammoud I really did like R6-V2 I must admit but it was not as tactic based, but you'r right GRFS was just normal shooter, I'd rather play GoW than that lol

Haha. That's such a bad call.

Games didn't used to be in some kids lala-land. Games used to be hard and cool. Half-Life1, Duke Nukem 3D..

Some people seem to be confused about Tom Clancy. He was first and foremost a writer, and last time he was involved with any game was more than 10 years ago. Ubisoft purchased his company and all the rights associated with it and they've been plastering his name on the titles ever since. The Division, for example, is based on real simulated events, but it's got Tom Clancy's name all over it. He probably never knew about the games existence.

@Alucard1475 Surely he would have mentioned that himself and gotten his name removed? He must have had some hand in it or at least came up with the idea.

No as Clancy licensed the use of his name to Ubisoft and they can use his name anyway they want. Sadly.

@capper64 @WhiteKnight77

Sure he made lots of money on licensing his name, that doesn't mean the games are worth a damn.

As I stated elsewhere and Jonmar states here, games with his name meant something. Notice that R6 and GR as made by RSE won GOTY awards. Nothing made by Ubisoft, or since they bought RSE, carrying the TC name hasn't. That should tell someone something.

@capper64 @WhiteKnight77 It's sadly because when you saw the name Tom Clancy on the cover of a game it used to mean something. That the game was developed to certain standards. Ever since around 2005 or 2006 it has only been used to release watered down games riding on the coat tails of once great franchises. Now when you see "Tom Clancy's" in front of a game title it doesn't give you the same guarantee of a certain level of realism and authenticity that it used to stand for. We can thank Ubisoft for that.

@quakke Aiming down the sights adds realism to the games, it's actually waht Tom Clancy wanted in his games, for everything else you're right

Tom Clancy games will always be my favourite shooters. Ghost Recon for the all out warfare, Splinter Cell for the amazing stealth and Rainbow Six for its tactical sensation. Please Ubisoft don't mimic EA or Activision, Tom Clancy has left behind something much greater than those will ever be.

I love nearly all the main games: Rainbow Six; Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell. Unfortunately, while I had initially intended on doing so, I hadn't played the latest Ghost Recon or Splinter Cell just yet, but I believe I will at some point.

hopefully he made lots of money off all the franchises and big production wasn't just banking off of his genius all this time. books, movies, games, all huge and mostly great.

one of the 1st 10 or so Windows games I bought was Raven Shield, blew me away. before that i mostly waited for friends to hand down theirs or played emulators.

having a Hunt for Red October viewing party this weekend in memorium!

I got to know of Tom Clancy the game developer before I got to know of him as a writer. My first interaction with Tom Clancy's games was actually Rainbow Six. Back then I had only begun to get involved with games, so it kind of became a benchmark against which I rated other shooters.

I wish that he'd have seen the launch of The Division, cuz I have no doubt that it is going to be a great game.

Good Tribute! Thanks Mary & Ty.

I'm guessing Clancy's actual involvement in these games was pretty much done by the second or third Rainbow Six title, but those earlier games based on his works were some of my all time favourites.

Little tidbit for those interested in tactical shooters and their history. I loved Rainbow Six, and it was probably the game that popularized the genre, which unfortunately didn't last too long. However, the first tactical shooter, which was also the first squad based at the same time, was a PC game called Seal Team, released in 1993.
