9 Must-See Anime To Watch For Fall 2019

The list of anime for Fall 2019 is jam-packed. From My Hero Academia Season 4 to Food Wars The Fourth Plate, here are our nine must-watch anime of the season!

The list of anime for Fall 2019 is pretty jam-packed, including new movies, original series, first seasons of new anime, and follow-up seasons to popular series. It's a lot to weed through but don't fret--we've got you covered. In the video above, Jordan Ramée goes through GameSpot's nine must-watch anime of the Fall 2019 season.

There are plenty of action-packed anime this season. Of course, there's popular mainstream option My Hero Academia, which is now in its fourth season. The anime follows the adventures of aspiring teenage superheroes in a world where becoming a professional hero is a viable career option. The second half of the third season for Sword Art Online, Aliciation - War of Underworld, is also airing this fall for those looking for a more video game-focused story.

The battles don't stop there though. Blackfox mixes together futuristic tech, superpowers, and ninjutsu to tell a revenge-focused plot about a teenage girl striving to avenge her murdered family. And Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia adds on to the already convoluted (but exceptionally well-written) Fate franchise with the final chapter of the magical time travel Fate/Grand Order saga.

But action isn't everything and there are plenty of other quality anime this season that lean into other strengths. Beloved cyberpunk police drama Psycho-Pass returns for a third season, for example, and Babylon is a deeply disturbing psychological thriller with some of the best writing for any anime seen this year.

If you're looking for something a bit lighter, check out Ascendance of a Bookworm or Food Wars. The former is about a book lover reborn in a fantasy world where books are rare, so she decides to begin making her own. The latter, going into its fourth season, blends together dramatic cooking competitions and humorous slice-of-life storylines.

Most likely, the underappreciated anime of the season is going to be the third season of Chihayafuru, which continues the story of one of the best told sports anime of the decade. It's likely the only anime on this list that you'll enjoy regardless of the type of anime you like. Even if you've never heard of it before--which is fair given it's not very well-known--you should consider adding Chihayafuru to your queue.
