With such great choices what I can do is add games that aren't here but deserve a look nevertheless:-The Darkness sports a great story, from creators of Wolfenstein New Order working in Starbreeze at the time.
-Resistance Fall of Man, while graphically inferior (is a first era PS3 game) the game it's very fun, well directed and you can play it on split screen coop! an welcome oditty in these times.-DOOM (2016). It'll be on this list if they made this video after it's release. SO GOOD.
My favorite shooter campaigns were Bad Company 2 and Resistance 2. I am not claiming they are the best FPS campaigns, but I enjoyed them the most and they had great stories behind them, followed by Modern Warfare 2.
Most of the COD games had a good campain mode on them,. I finally finished up Advanced Warfare last week. WOW what an great end of a good story.
The title above on COD 4: Modern Warfare on the 360 is claimed as one of the top 5 hardest games available when on the hardest mode...You want a challange, give that a shot... I am about 1/2 way through, it's a game I have been playing for 2 years now, as I get stuck on a level, I come back to it later...Dam, very hard (I did finish it in stanard mode).
There is a few that are ok but, most of them were worth playing. COD Black Ops 3 I have been disapointed in so far but, only an hour or so into it... Not bad but, not great so far.
Iam an avid gamer but, prefer a GREAT story over a EPIC multiplayer game.
Take away the pretty graphics / atmosphere of Metro 2033 and you have nothing... Piss poor gunplay, no physics, only one type of monster to kill other than humans (really they couldn't think of something interesting??) , the voice acting makes u wanna kill yourself (thankfully not so bad in Russian). I really don't get why this game deserves any praise. there was 30% game in the entire game. 50% of the game had me following a dumb NPC's back who keeps mumbling about how his father and great grandfather fought in the great war bla bla. If COD is criticized so badly for linearness, this is 10x COD. with bad gunplay. Below average game if u ask me.
@prashanna_bds: Although I dont fully agree with you, I enjoyed the game. Story was ok, but, it moved along pretty well and didn't get stale along the quest. Creepy story and it kept you along with it.

I'm not a hardcore FPS player but I'm thrilled to see two of the FPS games that did hold my interest and very much at that. FEAR and Metro both have incredibly good immersion, which aside from many other things is why I praise them so highly. Metro would be my absolute fav.
no doom 3?
F.E.A.R. is hands down one of the greatest single-player FPS games ever made. The dazzling gunplay, amazing AI, and palpable atmosphere are to die for.
HL2 was nothing more than an upgrade of graphics/physics. Didn't bring anything new to the table.
HL1 brought scripted sequences & amalgamated storytelling with FPS.
It's criminal that No One Lives Forever isn't on here, but like most people Jess probably hasn't played it :(
Bulletstorm and The Darkness
@7tizz: Bulletstorm....Points for killing by style, freaking fun game(a blast to play)...and yea, it would hold up today...
@7tizz: You should buy Bulletstorm. I think it holds up very well. Unfortunately, a sequel to Bulletstorm does not exist.
@The1stFishBone: How could I not mention DOOM!

How about Spec Ops: The Line?
@bolo_brule: its not First Person Shooter
If you can call its single player a campaign then Fallout 3 is the best.
@HuSSaR83: It's an RPG :|
Was I the only one that thoroughly enjoyed the No One Lives Forever games? Especially the first one!
A true masterpiece with a strong female protagonist and a funny take on the old school spy theme!
@zegojnaren: NOLF easily has one of the top 5 FPS campaigns ever made, but unfortunately no ones played it :(
@@stealthatbase: Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks so!
It's campaign is truly a gem that for some reason passed so many by!
@TorQueMoD Well I'd agree that the second one doesn't pack the same heat as the first one. I'd still call it's campaign top notch still even if it doesn't go on the top 6 in my book!
But hey everyone's opinion's got an asshole. Or how the saying goes :)
@zegojnaren: NOLF was indeed awesome! Sequel not so much.
@zegojnaren: Don't be apprehensive about this apprehension!
Bioshock 1 / Half Life 1+2 / Fear 2 / Resistance 2 / Prey / Halo reach / Singularity / Cryostasis / Alien Isolation / Dying Light / IGI 2, thats pretty much my pick only game I dont like about the top 6 in vid is COD, makes no sense.
Turn down that background music. Way too loud.
Kingpin: Life of CrimeOkay maybe not, but it has a great soundtrack
I own all of these
Shout out to both No One Lives Forever 1 & 2. Jess, you gotta love Cate Archer! <3
I love the Halo series. I spent so many hours on the compaign of Halo 3 with my brother.
There are some hidden gems like Clive Barker's Undying and Singularity.
The Master Chief Collection viewed as one package is the single greatest FPS of all time. Not fair, I know, cuz it's 4 games but still... I could play them over & over for eternity ...
Someone posted Clive Barker's Undying further down. Deserves a big ass bump. More class than even Bioshock & that says a lot... someone should kickstart a remaster of that masterpiece!
Dead space campaigns/atmosphere are 2nd to none. Gears of war 2 is another masterful campaign
@SPUDIRL3: They aren't FPS games though.
Dead Space 2.
@Pelezinho777: isnt dead space a 3rd person shooter
@BlazeKingz: right, right, right. ...but great single player campaign, that was on my mind, thanks, you got me there!
This is a fuckin awful list... How the hell do you mention Bioshock but not System Shock 2? (of which Bioshock is a streamlined, bare bones clone of). Where is Hexen? Blood? Doom 1, 2? Heretic? Duke Nukem 3D? The original Shadow Warrior? Each of these games are multiple times superior to every game on this list combined.
@repulsive44552: You notice how every game they mentioned was post 2000. I think they were trying to keep the list modern. And they're talking story in single player. You're telling me you liked Shadow Warrior better than HL2? You're one in a million I'm sure :P
@repulsive44552: You're too old for this crowd. (Said the 45 y.o.)
