An amazing game with a story and characters that touch your heart and a battle system that's fun and refreshing!

One of the best games I've played. I always have a hard time picking favorites but this game is definately a contender. I've played this game twice each time with the same joyful reactions, laughs, and tears to the moments between characters that just make the game worth playing. The story isn't anything amazingly new, rag tag militia against the evil empire. But the characters make it refreshing. No two are alike. The characters are all motivated and have fleshed out personalites. Your squad contains dozens of soldiers but each one has a background, likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses etc. etc. The voice acting is superb, each voice is exactly how you would've imagined the character to sound. The game also has replay value with skirmishes and a chance to beat each battle a variety of ways. The story has so much heart it will touch you the exact same way it did the first time around. I acutally enjoyed it more the second time because I already knew the characters and what makes them tick.

The combat system is very fun. I absolutely loved it. You customize your line up with scouts, snipers, mechanices, a tank, shocktroopers, and lancers. You'll develop your favorites and stick with them, but it's also really fun to switch it up every time so you can figure out who you like and don't like. The game isn't too easy, but it never becomes overwhealmingly difficult. There are optional battles called skirmishes you can do for XP and money, as well as the opportunity to play with the battle system more. Once you've beaten the game a first time you unlock a hard mode on the skirmishes for an added challenge and freshness.

All in all this game is amazing. The story is great, the characters are loveable, and the battle system is fun and addicting. Don't let a few complaints about AI turn you away from this game. An enemy tank wasting a turn, moving around an obstacle should not hinder your ability to enjoy this game. Your PS3 experience will not be complete without this game.
