UT3 does not live up to its predessors in anyway, shape, or form. It is a discrace to the UT franchise.

User Rating: 5.5 | Unreal Tournament III PC
When I first began playing Unreal Tournament 2004 way back in the day, I could not believe how amazing it was. It's gameplay, it's graphics, it's sound design, everything about it was amazing, and at the time it was a revolutionary step at pure awesome multiplayer. However Unreal Tournament 3 (UT3) in no way lives up to the series from which it spawned.

The first thing that comes to mind was how much the gameplay was lacking from UT3, especially in the game types. I remember Assault being probably the most played game mode from UT2004. You can still search for an Assault game in UT2004, and a good 20-30 servers will pop up instantly. However these number mean nothing to Epic evidently, as they cut this game mode entirely from UT3. Double Domination (DDOM), although included, fells absolutely dumbed down from it's original, I suppose that's why Epic quit sponsoring servers, because they relized how bad they made this compared to its older variant. All the other game modes are fine, I guess, but that still doesn't change the faults of others.

Finally the single player. Why is it even called Unreal Tournament 3? Theres no Tournament to speak of. Sure some of the characters make mention to it, and Malcom, one of the main (and the most know) combatants from the other entrys in the series, pops up from time to time, but other than that this isn't a tournament. A better name would have been "Unreal Warzone." Atleast that doesn't name doesn't make it sound like there will be other game types except for Warzone in the Single Player. (Also on a side note why did they decide to call this game mode warzone? It's just onslaught with a different name?)

In summary, UT3 is a severe let down to any UT fans, and if your looking for something to live up to or replace those titles, you'd best just stick with what you've got.
