My first Uncharted

User Rating: 6 | Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (Libertalia Collector's Edition) PS4

I almost finished it now and even if it did not take long to get to the end it certainly did feel like it. There are certainly worst games out there but it is remarkable how bland an AAA game can become if the developer is absolutely opposed to make anyting interesting or risky with it. The most annoying thing is how filmlike the game wants to be but the characters are so uninteresting and the dialog is so boring. Climbing feels like a long linear corridor and shootouts while not totally horrible but still feel more like a chore then anything else.

Best part of the game is when you let Nathan fall of a cliff to his death becase he is and allways will be a totall fuckwit. I don't think I have played any game in my entire life where the main hero is such an unbearable smug piece of shit. He is constantly making his little jokes in the middle of fights when he like kills 20 men but still tryes to be human and "deep" so he is sad, but not because of the killings but because he got in to a fight with his wife ofcourse! It's even more ridicilous that the fight between them arises when hes lies to her for no reason but to make drama. The cutscenes are mostly boring selfcongratulatory wank and the parts with Nathans wife and private life are almost unbearable. But thankfully, a lot of the bad can be ignored with bit of eyerolling when the core is solid. There is simply nothing in the game mechanicswise that would stand out as a totall failure but its not especially fun or original either.

I did not want to mention the graphics at first since when the game is so uninspired it is hard to be enthusiastic about the graphics or how much polished the game is. It's more of waste of resources then anything else that uncharted looks as fantastic as it does. There are also great physics based mechanics implemented. You get to drive a jeep in the mud, even get to use the winch. The physics fellt very reall and showcased how much a very well payed and supertalented developer can do tech-wise on a playstation 4. The problem is that whole thing fellt more like a tech demo then anything else. Every time someone tryes to add cars into a shooter game it just feels hollow and token (I'm looking at you Rage). You wanted something new? well here you have it. It's not like you need to hone you driver skill or anything like that. It is just there to be there.

The puzzles are also a big part of the game though I would wish it would be bigger. You have to accept that the 200 years old elevator is working while the one at the building you are at is maybe broken again but other then that the puzzles ale logicall intuitive. They are not too hard so they don't break the flow of the story too much. You will definetly feel like Indiana Jones and that is exactly what was aimed for.

I think the puzzles make the game float just a bit about above the waters of mediocrity. Other then that Uncharted 4 is a fairly uninspired standard 3rd person shooter with some stealth elements.
