The original Uncharted game took me by surprised by how good it was, it was almost flawless despite some weapon in-balances, this sequel fixes those issues and adds a bunch of new features resulting in a flawless adventure. The story of Uncharted 2 is about Nathan Drake searching for Shambala, the story is well written, takes lots of interesting twists and turns along the way and puts Nate in many far out situations.
The gameplay of Uncharted still revolves around a flawless mixture of combat and platforming, but there are some new features for both these gameplay elements thrown that keep everything feeling fresh. The biggest improvements are to the combat, in the first game, some weapons did not pack the right punch, in Uncharted 2, this issue has been fixed, there is even an aim assist for the easier difficulties, this results in flawless gunplay. Melee combat has also been improved, since the difficulty has been made a lot better, you now have more opportunities to run out into gunfire and beat up your enemy if you run out of ammo. The first mission of the game introduces some stealth elements that can be carried through out the game, Nate can now choke enemies from behind and climb along ledges under enemies and pull them down, and every time you do this is extremely satisfying. Levels are fantastically designed and locations are a lot more varied than in the first game (not saying it was repetitive in the first game), levels now range from jungles and cities to moving trains and snow capped mountains. Throw in some excellent set pieces such as falling buildings and a firefight on a moving convoy and you have got yourself one intense action packed game. Aside from the flawless combat, there is also some thrilling platforming, while the path you take is mainly limited, the immersive level design is has an open feel, that it's certainly not an issue. There are some simple puzzles to break up the action, these puzzles are generally a breeze and Nate has his ancestor's handy dairy to help him. Perhaps the biggest addition to Uncharted 2 is online competitive multiplayer, the online modes are well designed and are a blast to play, the maps, just like the single player levels, are well designed, the multiplayer even comes complete with perks system, there are even some co-op missions that are also a lot of fun.
The biggest standout of the original Uncharted game was it's visuals, in Uncharted 2, the visuals have been noticeably improved, pushing the PlayStation 3 hardware to it's limits, and all pulled off with a rock solid frame rate and no pop-in.
Voice Acting is also top notch, it really makes the characters believable add's feel to the engaging plot.
Overall, Uncharted 2 does everything right, it's a thrilling adventure that any PS3 owner would be a sucker to pass on. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves gets a flawless 10/10.
