Treyarch repaired their mistakes on Spider-Man2, but didn't keep all of the good side.

Ultimate Spider-Man is Treyarch's second attempt to bring Spider-Man to a fully open-ended part of Manhattan. The first time, with Spider-Man2, the result was '' okay '', but lots of key elements were missing, like more missions, more combo moves, less clunky combat fighting, etc. Plus, the game wasn't good looking, but it was forgivable since it was such a big game, technically. Did Ultimate Spider-Man succeed? Uhhhh, well, it did half of the job. Graphically the game is beautiful. The cell-shading cominc book style of U:SM is really well done. The cutscenes are mind blowing, and the character animations ( as well as enemie's) are really well done, exept that you'll notice the texture spawn in front of you and car disapear unless you're really close to the ground. . But there's some problem there and there, the combat system is now not clunky anymore, but not deep at all, it's just a matter of button-mashing combos. The story missions are really cool, but the race missions can get tedious since half ot the missions are about races or something like that. Venom's there and playable, making the experience less boring since he's a good alternative to Spidey, sadly, after playing a game like Hulk : Ultimate Destruction, where there's TONS of combos, you can only be sad knowing that none of your char really evolve. Spidey can swim, Venom can do high-jumps and absorb people for life points. Thats about it. Oh, and there's like 100 alternate missions, but they're all about beating up gangs and doing some boring races. Overall, the experience is more enjoyable since the missions are less tedious than the first Spider-Man, but the game don't have the same depth that it had in SM2. It's perfect for a rental, but only hardcore fans should buy it, knowing that the game has now very few to offer exept main missions.
