The Classic Highpoint in the Ultima Series

User Rating: 9.7 | Ultima VII: The Black Gate PC
This was THE game that hooked me forever on PC RPGs. Ultima VII: The Black Gate and its expansion kept me up late at night for weeks and was more fun than I had ever had with any other game at that time. I loved the story. The graphics were phenomenal for the time period and the gameplay was engrossing. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next, who I would do battle with next, when I might hear from The Guardian next, etc.

Once I'd play my first Ultima RPGs became my second favorite PC gaming genre second only to shooters and I guess today I'd have to say I like both equally.

In its day, this game was a truly amazing, groundbreaking title that presented a living world with a great story unlike anything I'd ever seen before. It took the genre to a whole new level of immersion.

When the Ultima Collection came out, I grabbed it so that someday I could return to play the second installment of Ultima VII, The Serpent Isle, which I have yet to get to, though I did go on to play Ultima VIII and tried to play the then unplayable Ultima IX (well unplayable unless you had a glide card).

Not too long ago I purchased a Ultima Online 7th Anniversary edition just to get the included (and patched up) Ultima IX it included. I want to play the final installment in what I'll always fondly remember as one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I ever had.
