User Rating: 5.5 | Twisted Metal III PS
Twisted Metal III is not the game it was, the series continues but it looses much of the character as it only continues. Gone is the blood, gore, chaos and burning scrap from past entries; TM3 has got guns, flashy particle only explosions, is ruble free. The video's are renderered in full 3D with no comic book style cutscenes and the ending videos are shocking; most characters are weird, plasticy, stereotypical, and usually suffer the fate of a bad wish that is actually put together even worse (One guy wants to party all night long, and so he gets to...in ALASKA so he freezes into a popsical? STUPID!) Here is how every video goes: Vehicle enters, Calypso uses exact same speech to recall upon the persons' wish and grants it, character randomly screams, fate determined and thats all in about 40 seconds each. Now the Graphics, they don't have the same style (though I suppose that makes it different too) but environments lack interaction, the textures are grainy and lag details, model work is as great as before, and the framrate and pop-in are fine. The soundtrack is sometimes good heavy metal with good sound effects but the acting is so-so (mind you they don't have well planned scripts). Menues still use passwords, and basic additions come along. The gameplay itself is almost identical, but a new physics engine causes far too much smashing into walls, rollovers, and death plummets making it all the more harder. The levels are too simple usually, but some new weapons arrive and there is now a 4 player deathmatch. The controls have changed slightly but there is nothing to say about them. The game is dissapointing for one obviously but it definately is uninspired. You could get about 18 hours out of the game but fans should rent if anything not buy and others should just learn to avoid it. This game is somethingelse, something poorly considered and you'd be better off avoiding the burning piece of scrap.
