Hey, at least it's better than Touchstone's Turok game.

I'm not a hardcore Turok fan. Not because I don't like the old games, but because I've never really had the opportunity to play them. However, I have played a lot of other N64 games, and I have to say that Turok Evolution plays as if it was released on Nintendo's system.

That's not necessarily a bad thing if you did like the original games. But sometimes Turok Evolution feels like it's missing something.

For example, there are no checkpoints in the missions, and no real rewards for completing a level other than unlocking the next one. The multiplayer is offline-only, which is a shame, because it is a lot of fun. The graphics are archaic, and the controls, while good, aren't mapped out as well as they could be.

But there is a lot of fun to be had with this game. The enemies are stupid, but the large variety of them makes fighting very enjoyable. The weapons are great too. One of my favorite weapons is similar to Half-Life's Gravity Gun, but instead of just picking up objects, it picks up enemies in a tractor beam. You can then damage the trapped enemy by throwing them against walls or other enemies until they die.

The mission designs are simple, but straightforward and fun. Most of them involve getting from point A to point B, killing anything that stands in your way. This may get boring for some players after a long time of playing, but for me it wasn't a major problem. There are also flying missions that place you on the back of a pterodactyl. I didn't like these as much as the ground missions, but they are still fun.

Overall, Turok Evolution is a very fun game that probably should have had a higher production value. But since you can get it for $5 used at most game stores, I definitely recommend it.
